I would say leave it alone.

I can understand modding and customizing computers, that's why I am here. However I think there reaches a point where it does not make any practical sense to do so.

If your chip is right at the edge of performance, get a better chip.

I enjoy performance, but my system must be as stable as possible first and foremost. If you have a second machine that you want to "max" out for fun or hobby, fine, I get it.
However why would you want to jepordize your daily driver?, that I understand less.<**This seems acceptable if you have proper backups, including money to replace ruined parts.**

This is not a case of something you can "fix" to make it work better as the angry guy said, this is modification intended to run the device outside it's design parameters, achieved buy crudely hacking open a case that protects fragile semiconductors.

I just did a quick google for "delid cpu" most look like they did not turn out so well, the first result was a guy holding a propane tourch on his CPU. Really? Hilarious.

Also I have not seen one person mention static electricity, I suspect this is why some folks have luck and why it does not work for others.

On a side note: I think it is HILARIOUS that the intel fan boys have to cut open their CPUs to get temperatures under control.
On another side note: If you want faster processors, get ready for smaller CPUs. The closer these chips get to the speed of light, the smaller these CPU chips will get. The higher the frequency, the smaller the wavelengths get. The chips need to be smaller to avoid phase shifting of the signals.

Now which way top the stock-clocked AMD thread. smile.gif

found a delidded i5 3570k for sale from where I'm from and he offered me this:
his delidded i5 3570k. for my i5 3570k + 55USD
yay or ney?

did you read page 1, where this is stated,
Disclaimer: delidding is a very dangerous process! Only delid if you truly believe you are ready
after reading and watching and viewing all the necessary materials that apply to delidding and getting all necessary equipment ready as well!

but yea, if you ask anyone of us, if its easy to do, most will answer , yes it is..
and the ones that killed their chip, ask them why,
and most will answer, i was impatient, or something similair..

a delidded chip should be less worth, youll lose warranty see..
the guy should give you 55usd ..lol wink.gif

^^ True story biggrin.gif post 81

But back to the question. I would not spend 55 USD to buy one as the warranty is out the window. I delided mine as my PC is a hobby no real work gets done on it so if it failed I would build something else.

As I said before its your cash you decide.

were talking about ivy, not about soldered chips..
static electricity can harm your chip anyways, delidded or not smile.gif

Interesting debate.

I picked up a 3770k, ran it for a week and returned it due to astronomical temps given the vcore I was running through it. Went back to a 2600k and have never considered going back since.

Someone above suggested a 2500k. This is a better idea. Sell your chip, pick up a used 2500k that is still under warranty and you will get similar performance with much lower temps. There are times when the latest and greatest are not the best option.
