I7 3930K + Ram Speed Help/Suggestion

Thread Starter 
Which would be more beneficial (can't seem to get my ram to run at full speed for some reason)

i7 3930k @ 4.8ghz with ram speed at 1333mhz 1.5v (its G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400)

or

17 3930k @ 4.5ghz with ram running at full capacity.


Would the 300mhz across all 6 cores outweigh the ram being at full bandwidth?

Filling all 8 DIMMs will almost always reduce your overclock, and on top of that, I believe only about 10-15 percent of SNB-E chips have a strong enough IMC to get to 2400. However, almost every single chip can hit 2133, so perhaps try 2133 @ 10-11-10-30 and if it runs, try dropping the timings a bit until it's not stable then push them up one to find the best combination of timing and speed.

Actually nothing except benching. The quad channels have such a huge bandwidth that no application that I know of maxes that out.
(In no way your RAM will be bottleneck - even at 1866MHz)
So your CPU being faster would help you more than faster RAM.
TBH, unless rendering there is no need to have 4.8GHz. It is not like you have to have this overclock to e.g. play certain games
