Looking for a Good Wireless Router

Thread Starter
Hey guys, my old wireless router (4+ years) is finally hitting the can. Could I please get some recommendations on some newer versions. I'm looking for one that will give a good signal to a 2200 sq. house and the ability to easily set up things such as wireless printing. Thanks for the help in advance!

P.S. I'm not looking for the most fancy and best one out there, but I'm not going for cheap either.

I bought the ASUS RT-N66U based on reviews (I know, right), so we'll see how that goes when I get home. The previous ones ware some generic crap T-Mobile buys in bulk, so can't recommend anything from personal experience, sorry!

Do you have a budget?
What kind of internet connection do you have?
Do would you want dual band or gigabit ethernet.
Will you be doing any connection oriented applications like P2P?

I right now have the WNDR3700v2 running Gargoyle. Connected is my printer through the HP JetDirect protocol so I just set it up through there with the printer driver and i'm ready to go. It supports a 1900 sq. ft. home comfortably.

i can't remember my model but i think it is asus rt-56u or something like that. well the look is incredible biggrin.gif and 4x2.4ghz band + 1x5ghx band is awesome, plenty of options, easy to configure no problem at all(i bought it 1 year ago). way better than the linksys i had before and any other dlink i've seen.

ASUS RT66U is a go.

The ASUS seems to be a little expensive for what it offers. What about this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833127215

I really have no knowledge on networking. I just know I'll have 2 laptops, 1 xbox, 2 iphones that will constantly use it in a 2,200 sq house.

Your better off getting one of these.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122334&Tpk=wnr3500l

Very powerful Router, and in the current times the Dlink Routers firmware is un-optimized and buggy.
I've used one of these myself. Run on a Linux Base firmware so it can support alot of connections, and is very powerful stock firmware.
So if your not looking to get a custom firmware on your router this is very good out of the box.

Like I said I have no clue about networking, so I really have no clue about firmware. Just looking for one that I can connect my things to easily and has decent strength. With that will the one you posted work?

That one seems a little old also. How come it doesn't support Win7?

It will work fine. But it does support Windows 8 which is backwards compatible with Windows 7.
Either way regardless of the OS (Windows, Mac, Linux) as it can connect then you are fine.
