i see would you vouch for such a down grade to get some $$ back?

The 7970 was 100$ more expensive than the 7950 in my case plus a lot of 7970 models are voltage locked now.

In the worst case scenario, let's say 1.1GHz, this is still equal to the performance of a 7970 not overclocked (if not a bit more). Now you can effectively overclock the 7970 to get (let's say) 10-15% increase of performance.

Well spending 100$ for that little extra performance over a 7950, I wouldn't do it.

I am running the Sapphire 7950 950mhz model. I have good cooling (side fans) and lots of space for the card to breathe. I can run 1150mhz core and 1650mhz mem with 1.1v and my temps stick around 70deg core and 75deg vrm at 75% fan speed.

I am currently running the card at 1100mhz core and 1650mhz mem and the card is 68 deg core 72 deg vrm at 65% fan speed. I also only need 1.07 volts at 1100mhz core too.

Max clocks were 1195/1670 stable at 1.2v but then my fan kicks up to 90% and gets annoying.

I also have experience with a MSI Twin Frozr III 7950 and it doesn't clock as well and its a lot louder when the fan gets over 65%.

I can run BF3 around 50fps in eyefinity at 5760x1080. The 950mhz edition Sapphire 7950 is great! thumb.gif

Mine has been awesome since day 1 back in May when I got it.

My gpu temps with the Heatkiller block...

Have some nice Liquid Pro TIM and Fujipoly Extreme Thermal pad mods already put together with my HEATKILLER® GPU-X³ 79X0 Ni-Bl block that I haven't tested yet.

Looking forward to completing my new loop set up with these mods and a few others that I have been working on for the last few months. It's been a slow fun build. Hope to get it up and running this weekend.

so if i take the plunge i might be looking at anywhere from 5 ~ 15% performance hit based on the clocks the card will hit ?

think long term.

A quick 60-80 bucks really worth the risk? I would keep the 7970 and live with afew less dollars in the bank.

but that's just me, i only want you to think afew months down the road.

i will be making 100+ $ back , also will the 15% hit make that big of difference in the long run? - thanks !

EDIT : can i lose more than 15% if i go for that down grade ( 7950 950mhz and try to over clock to the max ) from a 1.2GHz 7970 vapor-x ?

How are you selling it for the price you got it for? If I was buying a *used* card i'd want it for the model downs price new. I.E a 7970 for 7950 price. To be honest I'd just stick with what you've got.
