i live in egypt the prices here are different , the model i got sells here in retail for 509$ , the model i want to get 7950 950mhz sells for 345$ , big difference if i take off like 60$ for it being 2 months used i can still get a decent amount back , now understand ? smile.gif

EDIT : can i lose more than 15% if i go for that down grade ( 7950 950mhz and try to over clock to the max ) from a 1.2GHz 7970 vapor-x ?

Considering the difference between prices at retail is only $100, minus losses from resale, shipping etc. I really doubt you will make more than maybe $50~$60 back, unless you have someone who has already agreed to pay what is, honestly, way too much for a used 7970.

I think the more relevant price is not the retail price of YOUR 7970 but the retail price of the CHEAPEST 7970. If I had a choice between second hand and new, I'd take the new, so you might find yourself needing to beat that price.

All we are saying is that, unless you already have a buyer, you likely won't get nearly as much as you think you will for it.

i have a buyer that is willing to pay 460$ for it.....he wants the vapor-x model and is happy saving 50$ from the retail price HERE of this very same model because it was only used for 2 months and is guaranteed to hit 1200 core....

I think if you had stated that then you would have got much less argument from everyone. In that case I would say go for it. But, just FYI, the 950MHz editions are the exact same as the regular cards but with a BIOS update. Certain partners actually released the BIOS so that their users could update their own boards, so any results really are applicable.

To that end I can get 1200MHz bench stable and I can run 1150MHz daily on my 7950. Barely breaks 70c.

so incase mine came out stable @ 1150 only like yours so the missing shaders and 50mhz less will account for 15% performance hit ? or more ? if you have an idea smile.gif

Well, based on the difference in shader count and the clock speed difference I calculate, given that everything else on the chip is the same, about a difference of 17%, but it is likely to be less because the performance isn't entirely down to shaders, but it also relies on ROPs and memory bandwidth which are the same across both chips, so in all likelihood I don't think you would see any more than a 15% decrease.

It is possible that in some games where it is limited by the fillrate, then the cards would be very close in performance as they both have 32 ROPs, but in general games tend to be limited by the shaders.

so if you were in the same situation as me and the same circumstances would you down grade or keep what you already have and call it a day?
