[CL] Corsair Announces New Hydro Series H100i and H80i Flagship Liquid CPU Coolers - Page 55

I installed the H100i with all the components. For no reason the radiator fans do not spin when I turn on the system no matter which corsair cable I use. case fans work fine for some reason.

I am not really in the mood of returning the unit since I bought these components from UK and returning would be a big hassle for me.

I connected the radiator fans to the motherboard pin headers and its not that of a big deal.

Update on my previous issue: I have re-installed Corsair Link, and my processor throttles properly now. I have another issue though, with fan speed control. I have 4 Scythe Gentle Typhoons (AP-14) attached to the pump, and even if I set their RPM to, say, 1000, they never go to that speed. I have tried static RPM, "Quiet" mode, "Default" mode, and many others. At CPU or i100H temperatures of 30C or lower, the fans still spin at close to 1200RPM, maximum being 1500RPM. Why can't my fans go lower than that? Setting RPM to 1000 results in that fan very very slowly lowering its RPM but still hovering around 1200.

I'm going to attach them to my fan controller if there is no solution for this RPM control issue frown.gif

P.S.: finally got a good seating! Stock i7 3770 temperatures (-0.1V offset) stay within mid 50s after running Prime 95 for a while, and my 4.3GHz profile stays mostly under 70C, mid to high 60s, every once in a while reaching 70. Significantly lower in games, of course biggrin.gif

The fan controller built into the H80i and H100i sends a PWM signal to the fans, even if they're 3-pin fans, the internal PWM signal is how the fan is controlled from a speed perspective.

The frequency of that PWM signal is part of the equation, but the motor in each fan can only respond as quickly as the fan specifications allow. What's happening is that the PWM signal is faster than the motor is capable of adjusting to, and thus the fans aren't reacting as quickly as they should to the fan controller.

This is especially noticeable in lower RPM fans (sub 2000) and fans with motors not designed for high-frequency PWM.
Makes sense, thank you smile.gif I'll just control these fans with a fan controller.

First question I have is it worth upgrading to the H100i from the H100?

If so, they are not available on Amazon (out of stock). When will they be available again as I'd like to get one ASAP if it will make a difference.

Not really. It performs a little better, but you'd be better off spending less and getting better fans to run in push pull or buying a RASA kit. Unless you can't live without an RGB light on the block and Corsair Link that is.

You've just given a brilliant explanation, i've being asking corsair the same question for over a week with no answer up to yet!

Do I have to use link for the stock fans to throttle depending on load? Just have to have them plugged into the block, right? I really don't want them running at full speed all the time. Talk about loud.

And I'd rather not have to have link as that just adds more cable clutter around the block and ruins the look.
