These do look very pricey. The only reason I preferred the AX series to the Seasonic X series was the longer warranty and longer, fully sleeved cables. With the new platinum series from both companies those discrepancies are history. For example, I don't see the merit buying the AX760 over this psu right now. The AXx60i models offer something that didn't exist previously in the segment, so that's harder to judge, but the analog models seem to be priced to the point where you'd rather just buy from the competition.

The "i" series are Digital and feature built-in Corsair Link for monitoring and customized fan profiles. They also feature tighter electrical specifications.
The Digital element is still costly to implement, DSP solutions aren't cheap yet and they are fairly cutting edge.
But as we get into 2nd and 3rd generation in a year or two, the costs should come down. Right now, though, new technologies cost more.

well actually yeah, but with rebate this would be a great PSU, since the platinum 860 lacks the digital funcs. and i think i can justify the $30-40 depending on rebates and stuff more to buy the corsair quality
