Pretty much this. I avoided as much of the information about Skyrim as I could before it came out. After following all the PRs for Oblivion and being massively disappointed after Morrowind, I made the choice to try and avoid all information to remain unbiased.

It didn't matter. The game still fell flat.

Don't get me wrong, I've beaten it twice. It just isn't Morrowind. It lacks that certain something, and I'm pretty sure it's not nostalgia that I'm referring to.

Well this isn't specific to the elder scrolls. Nearly every movie series, the first was the best. Same with games MOST of the time not always, but most of the time.

Times change.

If you guys have Skyrim on PC, you should really check out mods. I know someone is going to say it's not the responsibility of the community to fix the game, blah, blah and while it's true that it's not, there's no harm in having the community build the games around themselves and play the game exactly how you want it. That's been the beauty of the Elderscrolls series on PC since Morrowind.

For people saying it's too easy, there's some awesome difficulty mods out there that make the game much more difficult and not by simply making NPCs hit harder and take more damage.

I beat Alduin but never went on to do the final parts of the quest. I have four level 40+ characters and have yet to fully beat the game. tongue.gif I blame mods.

Times change.

Morrowind wasn't the first tongue.gif While I loved the story and the setting of Morrowind, I found Skyrim much more enjoyable and immersive. That's just my opinion, though.

Skyrim was a bust; infected with consolitis and Gamebryo centric. Let's see what they do with the next Elder Scrolls, oh yeah, they turned MMO.
In a nutshell, I'm a long time fan and things just keep on getting worse for the franchise as the iPhone generation has plagued humanity and in so doing Bethesda stripped the core mechanism of the RPG and Appled the UI for simplicities sake.
Largely, the game had no sense of wonder and exploration resulted in bupkis. It was "dry toast".
Before the release of Skyrim, I hung on every rumor and morsel of news. After I played and finished the game at level 55 and all it took was 4 swings to kill Alduin, just as my brother's level 10 character killed Alduin in four swings, well you know they lied about scaling, just like they lied about the game having a new engine.
With all this disappointment, I have not bothered following any tidbits and they can keep their DLCs.

typical rpg traditionalist hate. it is necessary to simplify the mechanics of character development in rpgs to create balance (which is why blizz did the same thing in diablo 3). not everyone wants to have to spend a bunch of time on doing the math to figure out the best build. in terms of the actual mechanics of combat, it's more realistic and less broken. sure you can't create custom spell and effects, but that is what made morrowind so broken in the first place. i agree that morrowind is a much more interesting (and larger world) to explore though. but the character customization is sooo broken in that game

i agree that skyrim is definitely too easy, though you can customize the difficulty.

This is a single player game, balance is not needed. If enemies scaled correctly it would be a non-issue. And like Diablo 2 you do not need the "best" build to have fun. It is absolutely not necessary to simplify character development. Make a build that you like and run with it. If you are into cookie cutter max damage or spammable easy builds then search the web. Decreasing the depth of character building is not the answer. This mentality is lending itself towards these dumbed down games with no real choice about character customization. And custom spells were one of the coolest aspects of morrowind. They should re-institute that system, but better executed.

OT: Looks pretty good, I still have not beaten the storyline with 85+ hrs into the game. Once I realized how under powered magic was, unless you do the whole power leveling thing to get max enchanting so you have increased mana regen etc. sort of made it lame for me. I found myself spamming firebolt for the majority of the game, not very exciting. That is what I call a broken magic system.
