Having only played Oblivion The Elder Scrolls which I though was the best game I ever played, how does Skyrim compare? All of this talk has me saddened!

@SystemLord
If your first TES game was really Oblivion and you think it was the best game you ever played,trust me,you will totally LOVE Skyrim,cause its sooo much better then Oblivion.
Then comes the mod community,wich only improves the base game x9999999,its really a huge step in improving the game in whatever direction you choose to.

This comes from a TES lover since Morrowind first day,its easily the best game series out there for this kind of game imo,specially considering the modding aspect of it.

What you want to do in the beginning is use your dagger with sneak armor on (anything that gives a bonus to backstab) your gonna have to use that for a while since ur bow sucks in the beginning. Keep leveling up your bow though, you will want to get the eagle eye perk and the slow time shot, also try to max out crit and dmg. I would also recommend doing Dark Brotherhood and thief guild missions since they give you nice stealth items and are good at training you, I also was not afraid to reload a save in case I got caught as in the beginning it probably means your dead. Really focus on these things; archery, sneak and blade for your dagger; really nothing else. At some point you do not even need to sneak to take out some enemies with your bow and only sneak for the really powerful enemies. By the time I stopped playing my dude was legolas lol. My sneak character was definitely the most fun class to play.

Okay thanks, it is a pain fighting when you cant lose the enemy to regain 'hidden'. I usually shoot arrows roll away and continue when they 'reset'

There is absolutely no comparison between Morrowind and Oblivion or Skyrim in this area. As far as broken mechanics go, being able to chug potions indefinitely to prevent death, up your stats (with potions) so you can 1 shot everything in the game or craft weapons that allow you to do the same thing, or give yourself 100% invisibility indefinitely constitute broken mechanics to me. None of those things involve using the console or glitches either.
As flawed as Morrowind was, I really want the next ES to be in a similar setting. No other game has had as unique and interesting world to me

To be fair I completely forgot the 100% chameleon thing. But you're failing to mention you needed to use console cheats or get to a high enough level to get that. It's not something you get at level 1 or even 20. Additionally, I liked having the option available. It made it a more expansive game. Removing options is a bad thing. Players that want to cheat will cheat one way or another. I agree that made the game ridiculously easy.

Regarding Alchemy, you're again exploiting a glitch. Something that is again available in Skyrim. You can cheat in any game. That doesn't mean the mechanic is broken. Alchemy still works fine in any TES title. You can simply choose to exploit a glitch to cheat or not. The mechanics still work fine.

Skyrim suffers the same problem Morrowind does in your ability to create ridiculously overpowered weapons and armor through a enchanting and alchemy glitch. No need for a console there either. It's also something I wouldn't have known to look for if I wasn't already familiar with the Morrowind technique. Point being most players didn't know till they googled cheats. But Skyrim suffers the same glitch that Morrowind does in that sense.

My point is that neither Morrowind or Oblivion have broken mechanics. At least no more so than Skyrim. Save corruption isn't than uncommon in any game. Freezes on PC's were mostly due to mods and on consoles due to overheating. Oblivion had the same problem. So does Skyrim. Skyrim would CTD as vanilla far more than Oblivion did for me. All those things get worked out though. The alchemy/enchanting deal is still there in Skyrim though.

I'm not sure what I think for the next TES title. I'll still preorder it. And it will likely still be a good game. I just keep hoping for something even more sandbox feeling than Morrowind and both previous TES titles have been a step away from that.
