Thin, Light, Performance Laptop with long battery life?

Does such a thing exist? Looking for a laptop no more than 15.6 inches, around an inch thick, well built (no cheap plastic construction), dedicated GPU w/ switchable IGP for longer battery, backlit kb, high res screen, etc...
I was looking at the IdeaPad Y580 Laptop - 20994NU with the i7 and 660m.. but i don't know how long the battery lasts on that or if the 660m will be able to game all that well.

Long battery life? Not really. It will be around 4-5 hours for basic tasks, maybe 2 for gaming. At 1080p, the 660m will power through most games at medium-high settings with no problem. Don't expect to play BF3 maxed though.

Man i think 4-5 hours is pretty good, especially for something that can perform fairly well at games. I don't know why you would bother gaming on battery... really need to play some arkham city on the subway? LOL the 660m is pretty potent, but its on the lower end of the scale performance-wise.

The MSI GE60 is about 1.5" think with a GT 650 or GTX 650, the Asus N56VZ is about 1.1-1.3" with a gt650 in it... but the battery life on those is pretty low according to xoticpc, they only rate them at 2+ hours. my guess is to keep the profile down, they have smaller batteries.

Edit** laptop mag got the Asus to for 4:37, but then notebook check says the GE60 gets around 4 hours with low usage, closer to 3 with more normal use, and that the Same asus gets higher time... closer to 6 hours in the abnormal test,.

Should have clarified.. not gaming with long battery. I mean general use with long battery. My current acer has a 5650m, it dies in 2.5 hours just web browsing.... its totally useless.

My acer runs bf3 on a mix of low / medium. Can the 660m do it on medium / high, while getting decent fps?

ThinkPad T430 with a 9 Cell battery has ridiculous battery life... 8-9 hours. It's a bit thicker than 1" though, I think it's around 1.15-1.2" thick. In addition you can buy a sheet battery for it to which brings it up to 12-14 hours... O.o

Like I said, expect 4-5 for most tasks with the Y580. It should run BF3 just fine at medium high settings and maintain at least 30 fps on average.

my 560m ran BF3 on medium/high settings, and I used evga precision to overclock it using a preset before I started gaming, without an OC it left a little to be desired but definitely ran ok, just needed to play with the settings to find a good medium. both the 650m and 660m are faster than the 560m so I don't see why you wouldn't be happy with it. I wouldn't expect it to replace a desktop gaming rig, but on the road, weekends, watching football on the couch on Sunday, it should do the trick.

He's saying that you should be satisfied with either the 650m or 660m, since they're both more powerful than a 560m that can run BF3 on medium/high settings.

How much are you looking to spend on a notebook?
