Fixing Broken Pins - Phenom 955 - Page 3

So my method is going to be prime95 blend ~8 hours at night, and then change the settings in the morning for the next day to be the next overclock I want to test. Since I want to see where the limits lie with this cpu right now, I'm testing 3.8 ghz, which I think is where most people get their c2 955's on stock voltage or higher voltages, not sure exactly, but i think its a good high-end spot to start.

I'll use 3.8 ghz for the day, and p95 blend 8 hours tonight. I know I bag on multiplier overclocks, but my system is stock now and im just doing multiplier to get a rough idea where I am at, since I disable powernow! when fine tuning anyways. Core FID x 19 = 3.8ghz @ stock 200 fsb.

Interest to note - when I raised core VID to 1.45 (with the +.1v motherboard overvoltage), it wouldn't post (as in black screen upon start, didnt get to boot up screen or anything). 1.45vid+.1v over voltage should put me around 1.53vcore. Thinking it might be a similar issue that i had earlier, I changed my vcore the other way around - 1.35vid(stock)+.2v over voltage. And it worked just fine. This is 1.503vcore (i believe VID is a little higher than the actual supplied voltage).

I could probably test 4ghz, 1.55vcore, but I want to make sure my temps dont get too high, so that's why I'm testing 3.8ghz@1.503vcore. Idle seems to be around 32*C cpu, 31*C vrm though. Ill run a 5 min p95 to test temps on load in a minute.

ROFL great to see you did it! thumb.gif

You got the same stepping as mine (C1).
I managed to get it to work 24/7 for more then a year @ 3,8GHz now, never achieved stable any higher OC with this stepping.

Have fun!

A quick 5 min p95 blend priority 10 put my VRM temps to 70*C and my phenom ii was registering 54*C, 3.8ghz@1.504v.

i would be quite dissapointed if temps limited me from reaching 1.55v so i could push 4ghz+.

What is the temperature limit to my mosfets? Or rather, how can i find out what the limit is? I stuck a sensor underneath the heatsink, right next to one of the mosfet chips (its not between heatsink and mosfets, there's like 3 mosfets chip sets and one heatsink on top of all of them so its tucked in where theres no chip, if that makes sense).

Im seeing like 125*C be the max, so 70*C is just fine?

4.0ghz is hard to achieve on a c2 revision, they weren't the best clockers but any way you look at it its an improvement from what you had.

55C is the load temp you want for am3 anything above that you'll likely run into stability issues

http://www.overclock.net/t/947924/incorrect-temps-displayed/0_100

You know, I've been checking out all the threads I posted when I first built my athlon ii system, and was overclocking it. I made a lot of posts. there were lots of problems lol.

And even with ACC disabled, my temps were whack under my Athlon II.

I'm starting to think that maybe my ~55*C temperature readings for cpu on this phenom ii may not be correct. That seems a little high, even if im at 1.5v+. I'll just touch the heatsink, see how hot it feels. It maybe just looks the most correct because it idles around 20-40*C.

I mean right now, 36*C idle temp. i dont know how correct that sounds? maybe it is. i just recall temps being whacked out on the athlon ii, probably can't trust these ensors either.

the problem is that despite having 2, discrete temperature diodes, I can't really attach them to my CPU though. The 212+ heatsink sits squarely on top of the am3 processor, so its not like I can slip it 'under' the 212+, and there isnt enough surface area to really tape it to the side. The hsf mounting bracket makes it near impossible to mount a sensor onto the base of the HSF as well. But, with the sensors stuck into the fins or snugly tucked into the base under the mounting bracket, they register like 30*C max. I can't quite tell what the right temperature is...

and I'm still curiosu what the max mosfet temp would be :X

Lol i'm always surprised when people mention their 955 stock voltages as 1.4 or 1.45v headscratch.gif mine came in at 1.325 and does 3.4GHz at 1.35 (1.342 because of vdroop)

I woulden't go over to 1.5v, even though its a C2 it should be able to hit 3.8GHz with less voltage than you're currently putting in it.

it depends on who manufactured them.
as I have jetway board running a 95 watt phenom X4 9550 B3.
and they are at 89C idle and 95C load. yes the case has air flow but they don't have a heat sink on them at all.
I can turn off the fans on case and they stay in the same temperature range.
some can be rated 175C others 150C and lots are rated to 125C.

A forum post saying this seems to be the best i can find on vrms. So 80 is okay i suppose.

i think stock is somewhere around 1.35? I'm not really sure. Are you suprirsed at me? I dont think i even mentioned stock voltages at all :X

I'm going to go to 1.55v, that seems to be the max everyone says for 24/7 phenom ii. I'll reach my highest overclock on 1.55v, temps willing, and then downvolt it and downclock it to see a 'sweet spot'. Like I'll downclock it maybe 100 mhz from where I end up and keep dropping volts, see if I really need to be at 1.55. Like my athlon ii, I got to 3.41ghz, and even up to 1.6v would give it an extra 50mhz. I think it wouldnt even give it like 20 actually. I ended up at 1.488v on that athlon.

Well, I couldn't boot when I didn't give motherboard-supplied Cpu Over voltage of +.2v, even when my core VID was 1.55v. I suspect it might ahve to do with the pins? Or maybe its just how my processor is. Maybe it just wont boot up at such a high clock without some extra juice supplied by the motherboard. i dont know. cpu over voltage i think is a constant, motherboard supplied increase, and core VID seems to be a cpu request for power that isn't fully met and seems to fluctuate.
