Windows 8 hangs when opening folder....

Thread Starter
Hey guys i installed win 8 on my pc 3 days ago. Its a fresh install, deleted win 7 first and then installed win 8 pro. The problem is whenever i open a folder which has many files/folders in it the system hangs for a while, like for 10-30secs depending upon the no. of files/folders.This never happened in win 7,or win vista that i had earlier on my old pc. Also the search thing on win 8 sucks bigtime. It is unable to find most of the files i want, i wanted to search some songs i had in music folder since i wanted them to convert for my phone but it took nearly 30 mins before it said there was no such file on my pc. Win 7's search was awesome in this regard. Any idea whats wrong with win 8? wink.gif

I find it happens for my magnetic drives when they've been sleeping (idle for too long) since it doesn't happen for anything on my SSD

Try modifying the hdd sleep state's if you can find it.

yeah i have checked that. Hdd doesnt go into sleep mode. This particular problem lies with win 8 file explorer, saw some post about it on ms support site, with no solution for it. I dont know if its a bug or a feature! Windows search hardly is successful in searching anything i type, never had this problem on win 7! confused.gif
Dont want to go back to win 7 again, win 8 feels faster(boot time, less mem usage) I wonder if anyone on ocn is facing this problem too! Also a question regarding drivers, all the drivers i have(audio, network, etc) except gpu are of win 7, they installed fine but are win 8's drivers different? I cant find them on gigabyte's website atm. mad.gif

AFAIK as long as the links are legit, don't forward to smt illegal/inapproriate and aren't referral links they are fine.

For me it's not just windows explorer but any and all applications on the HDD after it's been inactive. They just lag to start to the point that occationally two or more instances start kuz i keep thinking it didn't respond at all lol (old old habit, i double click faster than I can think).

The link helped alot.. I had added all the drives in indexing option, deleted old index and created new one. Now its much better. But when a folder contains 300+ files, the explorer takes time to load(that annoying circle thing comes up). Guess the windows explorer has some problem.

I've had that issue in Windows 7. It's still here in the same folder.

Have you try create a new folder and transfer all your files over but not the hidden system files ? try it post back.

I never had any issue like it on windows 7 and I'm putty much happy with windows 8 no hangs when open a folder with lots of files.
