[PCGN] Valve on why they're favouring Linux over Windows 8 - Page 29

wth.gif somehow I dont get the idea.
If Crysis 3 is not in the appstore they will sell a ton of copies.
Same with WoW or whatever.
No gamer would be stopped from getting his/her favourite game because it is not in an app store.

And on the on the other side if Microsoft makes a decision and developers (companies) show Linux more love -> thumb.gif
Prefect. Good job, M$.

People seem to not realize how good these are for most people, even Steve Ballmer rated Linux above OS X in marketshare (Around 6% total) in 2009.

People are hard to change, they tend to think what they see is what's real. You see windows on TV, with OSX, they must be the biggest in market share. The whole phone fiasco had this all over, people were thinking iphones were still beating android even up to this year. The iphone was apparently the best seller since it came out, now we've got sites that say android owns over 70% of the phone market. Hmm, that's odd, my friends all say the iphone is the best and more people buy that than android. I never believed it, I was sure android had most of the market as far back as 3 years ago. It was cheap and blew up all over, but you know, tell that to people who watch the media (media whores).

Oh well, at least we are getting steam and will now have no reason for devs to complain about the lack of DRM in linux.

Well, in defense of the android share thing. That's android, which you can't compare against iphone... one's software and ones hardware.

Android phones though, can and are pretty much made by every company out there now. Not all of them are worthy of noting though. Whereas iPhones are only made by Apple and iOS is only stock on iPhones. So of course there is going to be more android phone sales as a whole than a single iPhone, as there is much more of them out there just because of their nature of pretty much any company being able to make use android.

You're essentially saying android is winning because they have 10,000 different phones whereas iPhone are limited to what? 6? 8? now, not too fair to just measure the OS. tongue.gif

Well yes, essentially that's true. Apple could demand hardware companies to keep to spec and let other vendors run iOS, I'm not saying iOS is bad either. I personally think they are just too expensive for what you get, if they lowered the pricing and created different warranty options I'd give them props. Maybe an iPhone that has no warranty but only a small markup for hardware, might give them more of a user base. That's just a difference in principle, it won't happen and I know it.

I didn't get into that though because as far as sales go, it doesn't matter why Android has more of the market. The point was, they had more than a lot of people thought. People don't think about the 10,000 different phones. In short, your much less ignorant than the masses. wink.gif I already knew that, you use linux. wink.gif
