Maybe they are going to use AMDs HSA APUs for the lower-end Macs/Books?

Does it really matter? I mean the average mac user won't really know the difference.

All x86 apps on the Mac that currently exist would fail to work.

So in other words, future mac users will be holding 13-15 inch giant iphones....with keyboards.

well im sure that mac users are subdued enough to think that its part of computer evolution; they sure dont have any issues shelling out 300-600 dollars every year for a new phone.

my assumption is they would end up going with amd or something cheaper and charge the same prices, and they are just looking to turn a much larger profit than they make right now which is pretty much 2x retail of pc systems.

Apple will buy AMD, and start making their "own" chips and give eveyone else the middle-finger...

haha: this is obviously a crazy idea...but it will happen in one of our parallel universes at least

Rooting for ARM! thumb.gif

Would certainly make things interesting if someday they got into the desktop class cpu market.

And once again Apple is first to start work on the potentially revolutionary new ecosystem that is ARM.

I can definitely see this work for their MacBook Air but for others we may have to wait for Cortex A50 to get the sort of computational power to match or surpass Intel.

I really, really wouldn't challenge Intel in the desktop CPU market... it wont be pretty. They're already sitting on 7nm processes. The amount of money they have to throw purely at chip R&D is well beyond anything apple is willing to spend.

I could see this happening in their mobile stuff, like the Air and such, as it would allow for them to be thinner and lighter, but that's about it. Then again, their desktops are a complete joke at this point, so it's completely reasonable for them to ditch Intel entirely. And before someone says "But Intel needs Apple's money", both Dell and Hp are bigger customers.
