Here’s how much hard disk space you have available out of the box:

The 32 GB version has approximately 16 GB free hard disk space.
The 64 GB version has approximately 46 GB free hard disk space.

WHAT?

Haha, good old Windows.

Have fun explaining this one to the average Joes. I'm sure they'll feel all warm and fuzzy after.

That's the space Windows takes up. No different from putting Windows 7 on a 64 GB drive.

Microsoft should compensate for this on a device we can't modify. They should be using at least 40 GB SSD's for the 32 GB version and 80 GB SSD's for the 64 GB version.

After upgrading from Windows 7 on my 16 GB tablet, there was seriously only a couple gigabits open. I used the feature on Windows 8 to completely re-format the device and re-install Windows 8 automatically, and it cleared out a lot of that unnecessarily used space, freeing more like 8 gb. I would suggest they try that and see if it does the same thing.

Considering you can hook up an external HDD / flash drive to the surface, AND a microSD card, this argument is stupid.

Also the Surface is nice if you want to actually do work with your tablet instead of surfing for porn while you're on the toilet.
