[Microsoft] Microsoft Surface 32 gig only has 16 gig free space - Page 2

Forget the Surface and it's non-wacom pen technology.

This is the Win8 device to buy.

1024 levels of pressure sensitivity, much like a Cintiq 10.1, but at 1080p.

$1200 for a tablet?? no thanks..... I could get an alienware laptop for that price, plus a kindle fire to go along with it.

If I could completely eliminate the need for my laptop I would definitely get one of those... I pretty much only use it for surfing and homework these days anyways.

That said that does seem like a lot of storage to be taken up by the OS. But as long as it supports SD cards I am okay with it.

Here’s how much hard disk space you have available out of the box:
The 32 GB version has approximately 16 GB free hard disk space.
The 64 GB version has approximately 46 GB free hard disk space.
WHAT?
You know it supports MicroSD slots, up to 64GB.

Microsoft should compensate for this on a device we can't modify. They should be using at least 40 GB SSD's for the 32 GB version and 80 GB SSD's for the 64 GB version.

I know iOS devices do the same thing as Surface, except the OS is only about 3-4GB, not 16. Not sure about Android but I'd estimate it is similar to iOS in this case.

  1. Who here is honestly surprised by this?
  2. Why did it take this long for this "story" to break?

I love when people say "omg, it doesn't have this *one* (probably niche) feature! Deffo not buy!!!" [not saying that microSD is a niche feature]

Like you had seriously planned on getting said product in the first place.

And to the above post; that's boss, steep price but definitely worth it for a digital artist.
