If possible, pellets are definitely preferable. Sooo much easier.

My wife has an Ice cream bicycle she uses in the summer vacation when not teaching chemistry.
The Ice cream novelty supply stores sell it dirt cheap.
She gets 50lbs for $15 and it is packaged in 10lb slabs.

I don't know if it's been suggested already, but use a fire extinguisher to get dry ice. Make sure you wear protective gloves, cz it's almost -80 degrees celcius if I'm not mistaken, get a big piece of cloth, cover the extinguisher's hose but leave abit of space for ice to form, and fire it up. You should get loads if you keep it for a minute or two.
Fair warning though, it gets messy. Not to mention dangerous, so if you want to try it out, do it at your own risk.
More info on the matter.
