Do you guys actually realize that how good a game is is a completely subjective thing? Sure you can compare graphics etc. but you can't just slap a number on a game and say that that's how good it is.
Ratings/scores/stars in reviews are only put there because the sites get much more ad revenue etc. due to impatient people just checking out the score (versus them not coming to the site if it doesn't have scores) and because it's hard to get review copies, make connections etc. in the industry if you don't adhere to some standards. Scores are meaningless, they're a business tool to keep the sites afloat and to get more views to reviews.
What you need to understand is that behind every review is a person/group of persons with different opinions likes/dislikes and so on. It's impossible to accurately give a game a rating based on a bunch of opinion pieces. This is why metacritic should not be taken seriously by any gamer who actually wishes to know what they're talking about and wishes to see the industry go in the right direction. Right now metacritic has way too much influence when it comes to the reviewing business and the way publishers look at their games.
All this based on scores that a) can't be properly measured in any way, b) are based on opinion and are subjective, and c) have no standards whatsoever behind them.
