Flashed my 7950.. Help

Thread Starter
So basically I received a 7950 BOOST BIOS from someone on here after I noticed they had the same card as me with the boost BIOS.
I attempted to flash with AtiWinFlash but it failed, it was all cool then it just black screened.. So I rebooted, dead BIOS.

That's fine so I flicked the switch and it booted like normal! So good so far right?
Wrong, I'm now In Windows and I can't flash the saved BIOS back to the card at all! It just won't let me, I've moved the slider after windows has booted and I can't flash to the first slot (which is the flashable slot).

ATiWinFlash just refuses to even open now.. Hmm

Flashing via Windows is not usually recommended.

You should flash via the command prompt, before the system boots into windows.

You can try this.

and I downloaded a Gigabyte 7970 bios from here:
http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/index.php?page=1&architecture=ATI&manufacturer=Gigabyte&model=HD+7970&interface=&memSize=3072
I grabbed the newest one dated 2012-03-08, and set for a core/mem of 1000/1375. I made a flash boot key, and used this command to flash the bios:
atiflash -p -fs -fp 0 7970.rom
The "0" is the card, and 7970.rom is what I renamed the new bios. My computer booted up, and must have detected a different (probably a 7970) card. I got 1 bluescreen, but when I rebooted, my Windows 7 x64 came up and I've just put the card through a few hours of Diablo 3, and it's completely solid! Only issue is that my 3rd monitor on the HDMI port isn't working. I read somebody else having a problem with their HDMI port on their 7950 not working any more after flashing to a 7970 bios. I'm just going to get another DVI --> mini-display port adapter like the one I've already got on the 2nd monitor, and I'll be good to go. And no more having to use software to clock my card up to 1GHz! Although it will clock higher than that, I'm going to use this bios until somebody comes up with a way to modify the existing 7950 bios to a customized clock speed.
Thanks for starting this thread!

Quoted from here.

I haven't done it with the 7XXX series, but I did do it to my 6950s.

Thanks! I'll do that now... Hopefully it works :s
How can I make a flash boot key? I've seen people exploit a HP utility lol but that's about it.

AtiWinFlash always fails.

Best to do it through a bootable USB with atiflash.

Using usbdos + ATiFlash doesn't work.. It just loads up with a black screen and the DOS blank cursor thing.... mad.gif

EDIT: Used a different guide, but it worked! Very simple fix.. Easier then I thought!
Going to try the 7950 boost BIOS with it right now thumb.gif

That worked too! Sweet! biggrin.gif
Getting keen, gonna try a 7970GHz BIOS and see what happens! thumb.gif

the HD 7970 Ghz BIOS is not really required. you cannot enable the 256 shaders. so its not really worth the hassle. with the HD 7950 Boost BIOS your AMD CCC clock limits are also increased. I think its 1200 Mhz. is it correct.

I know I can't get the shaders.. My new problem is that when on stock + 20% power limit the card is going crazily between 63% usage and 99-100% every few seconds.. It's also running a lot hotter then what it did before too.

Not all cards are the same, even if they are the same model. It's the luck of the draw, especially with altered BIOS. smile.gif

At least it's working. This is also not to say that another modified BIOS won't work.
