Yeah, let's all sit down and enjoy a game of 7-zip.

Now all of the sudden benchmarks are useless to Intel fanboys now?

okay stop the bickering please. the question was asked if SR would be AM3+ and all signs AS OF NOW look to say YES in early 2014... if your an intel guy you don't have much business being in this thread unless you wanted to answer the question as i just did. FX chips beat Core chips just as often as Core beats FX right now, depends what you do...

me I game, BUT i also do a LOT of SolidWorks CAD rendering and creation so FX was the choice for me. if you can't see both sides of the story just stop posting. 7-zip and all other useless benches don't matter because at the end of the day your waiting either 25 or 27 seconds to unzip the file (who gives a crap really about that difference), it all comes down to the SPECIFIC software you use on a daily basis and how each chip runs on YOUR software.

At the moment got a gigabyte 990-fxa board, if the AM3+ boards isnt going to support steamroller then im switching to inlet ( something i should of done along time ago ), save money for the DDR4 Mobos tongue.gif.
thanks for reading !

According to a leaked source at AMD, Steamroller will support AM3+. Though it's unknown whether the current 800 and 900 series chipsets will work with it. My guess is that each will but it's not certain. Steamroller for AM3+ isn't going to be released until sometime in 2014. That last fact is directly from AMD. We'll know more in the first part of 2013 when AMD gives its annual investor talk.

It's got to be at least as much fun as Starcraft 2 at 800x600, so we can 'expose' the CPU's ancient x87 gloating-point performance (the 'g' is intentional).

The point isn't that 7-Zip is a utility, the point is that it is properly compiled and optimized for multiple cores and AVX/FMA instructions. As more programs get compiled/recompiled for multicore and modern floatinging point operations (FMA/AVX), Bulldozer/Piledriver chips will only get faster, while the i3 and i5 chips will never run software any faster than they do now.

I'd rather have a CPU that will only deliver more and more performance than one that is stuck in the past. Enjoy your single-threaded performance in ancient games.

Does every thread have to be bashing/bickering/flawed-arguments-about-thread-usage ?
Steamroller should be a drop-in replacement but time will tell if it's compatible with 990FX boards.

BF3? Good, multi-core aware game. Doesn't run one jot faster on an Intel CPU quad than an AMD quad or higher CPU. It's totally GPU-limited. Next.

Piece of garbage, single-threaded gaming engine. Nice graphics, though. Too bad you're expected to run it on a single core Pentium III-descendant CPU at 10,000MHz to get good performance, though.

Next.

FX-8350 is basically as fast as a 3770K at both 1280x1024 (reduced to 'expose' CPU limitations), and at the more likely playable resolution of 1920x1080:

Once again, a game where the graphics card you're using by far outweighs which quad or higher CPU you're using. Stop kissing Intel's butt.
