Pretty self explanatory, do you use the sleep in Windows or do you just shut it down?

I have been shutting it down but especially in Windows 8 I have noticed that it's really faster to boot up from sleep.

Are there any disadvantages in doing so?

Personally I don't because I fold all night long. I just set it to shut off the monitor after 15 minutes, although I usually turn it off by the bottom anyway if I'm going to be away.

So long as it's done humanely, yes.

If you just can't afford to feed it though, i'd give it to a more loving home.

With an SSD theres not really much difference between sleep and shut down, so I just usually shut down so it doesn't wake when I bump the mouse.

LOL.

I never sleep it or shut it down because I'm too impatient to wait for it to wake back up, and I like the light and fan noise when I sleep. My roommate always puts his to sleep though. Guess its really just preference.

It is really pointless on windows 8 with an ssd. The difference is all of three seconds. It takes my monitors longer to wake up than that.

My BIOS takes most of the time from booting, that's my problem.

Well I do put it to sleep if I am walking away for a bit but having an SSD as my boot drive I disable hiberanation (powercfg.exe -h off) to prevent hiberfil.sys file writes.

At least I think I'm doing that "right".

Depends on what machine it is. Like others have said, W8 with a SSD gets shut down. My HTPC with a spinner drive and W7, sleep (has to wake up to record shows). My dell with the big fans that go to 100% when waking/powering up sounds like a jet taking off: shut down. That crap will wake anyone up in the middle of the night.
