It's clear why they donated though, which was what I was pointing out. No-one else would've mentioned it and just simply sat and praised Samsung to a god-like status. There are two sides to every coin.

Well pointing out why they did it should be posted in another thread and not this one. I haven't seen anyone putting Samsung to "a god-like status".

Honestly, your argument isnt appropriate in this thread. We are supposed to be mature people on the forums. Obviously, the big picture is helping those in need right now.

They donated the money because they could. Again, the company isn't trying to upstage anyone. What other companies do with their money is their own business. It is Samsung's decision to help, and that's what they're doing... they are helping. Samsung does not deserve "god-like" status for this, but they do deserve a little recognition for their effort.

Do not turn this into a Samsung-bashing, Apple-defending thread. That has no place here.

You should also be mature enough to accept any possible motives for doing this then. There is nothing immature about pointing out different sides of an argument, I have no idea why you would think that. This thread is for discussion of this this news, telling me to make another thread on the same topic to discuss an issue within this story is not a good idea and the thread would more than likely get deleted straight away, since this one already exists for that discussion. I fail to see how me bringing up their motives is in any way immature.

That's not what I was doing. See above. We're here to discuss issues and articles in the news section, that's what I'm doing. How could what I said be interpreted as Apple-defending? They've done nothing for me to defend.

It does make the company look good, yes, but other than that, the money will be used for a very good cause. Not seeing what the issue is with a little positive publicity. thumb.gif

Yup.
Upstage Apple or not, they still donated 3 mil and get some good news coverage. Good for all the companies that did. One-upping the next guy here is good.

Truth hurts? If Samsung wanted to actually help the people there, they'd have donated far more than $3million. If they have 1 billion in the bank - which I think they have more than - that means if even only gaining 1% interest per year they'd get 10 million per year in interest alone. You can bet they get far more interest than that. It's simply to upstage Apple, that's it. The same way they only implemented S-Voice because Siri exists, only that didn't really work...

It is their money to do with as they please and no they cannot simply just donate some huge ammount. They have to keep money in the bank in order to make sure they can pay suppliers, employees, etc. Could they have donated more? Probably, but it is not required nor expected. In fact they are not required or expected to give anything, their not even an American company. They chose to step up and set an example with a $3mil donation which will probably spur other companies in similar positions to contribute as well.

Shame on some of you guys for tuning this into an argument about the definition of "idiot." How childish and inappropriate for this thread. Please don't derail this thread further.
Also, I do not believe this is an attempt to upstage Apple. I think this is simply a good company doing their part to make sure humanity in the world is preserved. thumb.gif

^This x 100. I do not care if they "upstaged" anyone. The fact is they donated a large amount of money and it helps a lot. Anyone that says anything otherwise is just nieve and childish. Can OCN act like civil "adults" for once in a thread?

STOP IT! End your childish arguements and needing to take away from what they have done. No one here is claming Samsung to be "god-like" at all. We are showing appreciation for their very generous donation to a much needed cause. The devastation to the east coast is tremendous and you are making yourself look like a fool by trying to argue with others about intelligence and Samsungs "alterior" motives.

STOP TROLLING AND FEEDING THE TROLLS! Any further posts as such will be reported by me, and I hope by others.

Good guy samsung.
No doubt it's in the news solely because of all the competition, doesn't matter. What matters is that they did it in first place.

I've mostly stayed neutral up to this point but I'm seeing more and more Apple fanboys project some sort of narcissistic personality disorder unto their favorite company. Samsung is a global powerhouse and a pretty big name in consumer goods, especially in the US. Whatever the mobile department WITHIN the electronics branch thinks of Apple has little to do with the conglomerate's donation; it's practically customary for large businesses to donate during crises.

As someone whose hometown was destroyed by the storm (luckily, my house and family are fine, as are my friends' houses and families (at least for the most part)), I can appreciate any company that is donating money to the cause. Some of the pictures of my town that I've seen are just depressing, and there's still plenty of places without power. Lunch and dinner stations have been set up in one of the parks, and gas lines are still hours long in some places. More money = faster responses in my mind, and that's good for everyone.
