Does faster ram really make a difference?

I watched this video and wasn't sure what to make of it.

Has anyone gone from ddr3 1600 to ddr3 2133+ and noticed any improvement in windows, benchmarks, etc?

1600 > 2133 is pretty small gains. Most benchmarks cannot pick up the difference in bandwidth. I wouldn't concern yourself with it too much.

For some reason the link to the video isn't working for me.
But yeah, everything I read about this doesn't relate much to real world to be honest, sure there are some small gains, but most of the difference will come in RAM specific benchmarks.
That being said, this is OCN, we are suckers for benches and high numbers! biggrin.gif

This.

We won't see DDR4 until Skylake (ie after Haswell).

Is it possible that faster ram doesn't necessarily improve overall frame rates averages but helps remove/reduce any stuttering, bump up minimums a fps or 2, etc in games that are attributed to i/o processes? Also, can it help in Boarderlands 2'? It's being said that even with an nvidia card there is still a good amount of physx being processed on the cpu until you use a dedicated gpu for it.

Honestly it depends on the processor.

I went from DDR2 to DDR3, it's a bit faster, but not that noticeable. Unless you run programs that heavily rely on ram.
