Seems like GTA IV won't work under Windows 8.

I have the game via Steam, I launch it, log into the Rockstar Social Club thingie, then nothing happens, game won't launch. and Steam says I am no longer playing any game.

Tried running the game's .exe under Windows 7 compatibility, but nothing.

Any ideas? Anyone got it working? Seems like no one can get it to work.

It may have something to do with IE 10, when IE 9 was still in Beta I, among many other people installed it and GTA IV and GTA: EFLC stopped working, they wouldn't launch. They patched IE 9 in time for the final release, so my guess is they did another change again for IE 10 and this time it wasn't corrected in time for the final launch of Windows 8. GTA IV and EFLC need some IE code in order to start (I think it's related to the Rockstar Social Club log-in).

GTA IV, especially EFLC TBoGT is one of my favorite games, guess it's one more reason why I won't use Windows 8.

Edit: you may try to fix it by trying to do the same thing as is written here by analogy, it might work, you may try putting in IE 9's file in the place of IE 10's.

That is weird. Doesn't Games for Windows Live check for updates ? If not, Windows 8 is shipping with an old version of GFWL, that version avexmax linked to was posted months ago and it doesn't even list Windows 8 as a supported operating system.

As far as I know Windows doesn't come with GFWL, it's Steam that install it when you launch GTA IV for the first time after installing/downloading it.

Either ways, it's fixed, and I am now 100% happy with Windows 8.

[SOLVED] Grand Theft Auto IV not working under Windows 8

Mouse has tracking troubles on multi-coloured pads, If you has small-medium hands it is palm or claw grip mouse. For large handed people only claw, go and buy ec1 if you want to palm.
