C2D X6800 Extreme 2.93 OCing..

Thread Starter
Hey guys have read quite a few of the OCing articles here and for some strange reason im still clueless...

basically I hae been building comps since the old 486 days.. and and been quite successfull at it. Although I have never actually attempted an OC on anything. My current system is listed below and from what I can tell is a prime candidate for OCing right now CPU is at 25c with a mobo temp of 32c So im fairly sure my temps can handle it hands down. Now I do know my way around the bios do know how the FSB works and all. but from reading the threads here this is where I become unsure..

I have the DDR2 800 2g 6400C4 set from XMS.. from my reading you obciously dont want to run the ram faster than the CPU as you would get no benefit from it.

So my question is....... now this may come as a surprise.. but..

Is OCing as easy as just bumping up the FSB.. 1 step at a time... is there a certain value I should stop at?? Is there anything I should be concerned with??

Any and all help is appreciated

That is the just of it, however, since you have an X6800 you *can* just up the multiplier to OC the CPU, however, your FSB and memory will still be running at stock.

I do not believe the multi's are locked since it is an "Extreme Core 2 Duo", however, I could be wrong. Mine arent locked but mine is an ES, so its not a good reference. I used to be an AMD guy, this is my first intel machine, but it is my understanding the the "Extreme" line of intels is comparable to AMD "FX" line, in that they both have unlocked multis.

Humm, I think the milti's are unlocked from 10-6, but, isn't yours unlocked from 11-6?

will it boot above 11?

Also, do you have a CPU-Z validation link to your CPU?
