Only people that play games casually switch. Other than that, most gamers bring in new things to add to their collection.

It's no Crysis, lol but 343 did a great job. I went through 4 levels on legendary in no time. Halo is the only reason I still am excited about consoles.

Better not be like Crysis. I like my games optimized.

I agree, but lets be honest. The game was specifically made for a controller. I don't see it working well on pc even if it wasn't a port.

Take Need For Speed Shift for example. It runs at 30FPS on consoles, but it is very fluid. There is little input lag. Most games I see input lag in are actually on the PC. Yes, I may be playing a game at 60FPS on my PC, but it's not fluid because of the input lag.

Please correct the bolded part. Human eye 101, it doesn't run at a certain fps.

So first of all, yes when the issue is simplified one image will be held by the visual cortex for about 1/10th or 1/15th of a second. This means that anything above say 13 to 15fps will look like motion in stead of individual pictures. But here's the kicker, just because we don't see the material as individual pictures anymore doesn't mean that it will look smooth.

For a film/game/whatever to look smoother you need more frames, above 15 you will already have a sense of motion but there is a huge difference between how we see 15, how we see 30 and how we see 60. With 15 our brain has to fill in much more blanks than it does with 60fps. That means that with 30fps we see more of something that could be described as motion blur. Yes, the smoothness can actually start to look unnatural at some point (and that limit definitely isn't at 30fps btw) but unlike for movies/TV this isn't really a bad thing for games.

With games you need to take more into consideration. First of all, how does the title handle motion blur? TV/movie material looks smoother at a lower frame rate than games due to more natural and consistent motion blur found in movies. Yes there are differences between games and how fluid they look at a given fps but the rule of thumb is that you need quite a lot of more frames per second to achieve similar fluidity.

As for the input lag argument, yes it's a part of it, it only makes the effect that much easier to detect on console PC. This effect is usually also amplified by the poor input lag that most TVs have. But input lag doesn't explain the whole issue, it's just a part of it. If input lag what was causing the whole thing, why would framerate differences be noticeable when there is no input?

On a lighter note. I played Planetside 2 and I must say. 20+FPS is more than playable. I was averaging 23FPS and I must say, as long as it stayed over 15FPS, it was smooth as butter.

I've tried planetside 2 and my opinion on it is that they really do need to optimize the game better. I don't know if there's a setup that can max it at acceptable frames but 20 fps just looks horrible with it, believe me I tried. I couldn't enjoy playing like that.

absolutely and totally subjective.
again completely subjective. And as I already pointed out I really like where the game is going with what people would normally consider "gameplay". But for me (seeing that this whole issue is subjective) the restrictions consoles have outweigh the pros. The game is not fluid enough for me and the controller as a control mechanism for an fps game is cumbersome.

Halo 4 has no auto-aim.

Expected, but...

First Windows 8 and now this. Keep pushing the enthusiast PC market away, MS.

360 Controller for pc tongue.gif

i would have liked to play Halo 4 i guess, but i am not surprised, and I'm in no position to fork out money for Microsoft for a 360 just to play it. If they make the net for one type of fish, they will only ever get that type of fish i guess. biggrin.gif

LOL I was watching a video earlier and saw how horribly powerful the aim assist is. I saw someone toss a plasma grenade maybe 3/4 of a screen away from their target and it landed on the player just fine. Sorry but, Halo 1 was great on PC, especially with its mods. No game is ever the same to me on a console. They just can't live up to their PC counterpart. All that aside, I'd very likely pass on it even if it were on PC. I seriously don't see anything groundbreaking that sets it apart from the prequels.
