[NV] NVIDIA Delivers Massive Performance Boost to Linux Gaming

NVIDIA today announced the latest NVIDIA® GeForce® drivers -- R310 -- double the performance(1) and dramatically reduce game loading times for those gaming on the Linux operating system.

The result of almost a year of development by NVIDIA, Valve and other game developers, the new GeForce R310 drivers are designed to give GeForce customers the best possible Linux-based PC gaming experience -- and showcase the enormous potential of the world's biggest open-source operating system.

source.

Exciting news for Linux users.
Impressed. Wasn't Nvidia against making their drivers open source or something for people to make them for Linux? Guess that was because they already had them underway working with Valve. Gotta say Valve is dumping a lot of energy into making Linux a stronger platform. I forsee big things and would love for Linux to be a good gaming platform.

AFAIK, Nvidia still won't share their driver source files. But, it's very nice that they have been devoting development time to improving them.

Nice to see them taking the time to do this. Hoping to maybe see some linux based gaming benches in the future!

NV has been making drivers for Linux for years, but the problem was they weren't very good. Sometimes difficult to install depending on the distro you were using, although they have gotten much "easier" lately. I am going to give these drivers a try tonight.

Perhaps this means that Nvidia and Valve are in the Valve / Steam box working together?

No, but I suspect its largely due to the Steam for Linux beta going live last week.
