Ram Timings

Thread Starter
My current timings for computer are 8-8-8-22. I was just wondering if I there are people who use lower timings and if it will make a big difference to change it. I have a 1090T oc'd to 3.6ghz and Kingston Hyperx 8GB 1600 underclocked to 1333mhz . I have never dealt with ram timings before so that's why I'm asking.
Why wouldn't you run it at the rated 1600Mhz speeds? From what i've read AMD really benefits from higher speeds. Of course with those higher speeds you can try dropping the timings, go one notch at a time (i.e. if its 8-8-8-22 then drop it to 7-8-8-22, then 7-7-8-22, etc.) and test with each one.

Aren't you supposed to use 1333mhz if you have a Phenom II? I read somewhere that Phenom IIs work better at 1333mhz or they are unstable at 1600mhz.
Not True I'm running 8gb Mushkins @ 1600 9 9 9 24 1T the only instability I experience is when I mix it with my 1333 GSkills (running @ 1600). Generally you'd achieve better results when you overclock cpu and ram together

AM3 cpus are supposed to prefer lower latency so I'd see if they could tighten down to cas 7 or even 6

AMD likes speed/timings

For the greatest difference, go for speed.

You really won't notice any difference either way you decide to run them, apart from maybe a few percent in benchmarks.

I would either try 1333 @ 7 7 7 21 28 1t or 1600 @ 8 8 8 24 32 1t.

C3 and E0 rev Phenom IIs work fine at DDR3-1600.
