How long till SSD replace HDD entirely?

Thread Starter
Anyone care to estimate how far or close we might be? Currently, 512GB SSD's are around £300 to £400, so to be buying SSD's equivalent in size to today's largest capacity HDD's of 1TB, 2TB and 3TB would cost way too much. But the nuts and bolts HDD is almost a Dodo in the same way CD's replaced tape cassettes. It's surely just a matter of time before it becomes extinct, and I look forward to when we can buy 1TB SSD's for the same price as a 1TB HDD, ie, under £100. Apart from SSD speed being superior, other benefits of 7mm thin credit card sized SSD's include less space needed in our case, less weight, less noise. So when? How long before more SSD manufacturers enter the fray and competition drives the prices right down and eradicate the HDD for good? Do WD and Seagate have much to offer in SSD or would they die out?

A question that's been asked hundreds of times. And the answer is nobody knows.

Atleast for the foreseeable future, it's unlikely as hard drives still by far win when it comes to $ per GB.
