[BBC] Microsoft ditches Windows Live Messenger for Skype - Page 7

It's not that I think that Microsoft will actually listen in on my conversations, it's just the PRINCIPLE that they have given themselves that "right" to.

I am a man of my principles. I refuse to allow myself to be listened in on by a private company without a warrant without the legal recourse to sue them into next Tuesday.

Microsoft has no reason to be able to listen in on my conversation without a warrant. For me, that is good enough to tell Microsoft to (expletive) off.

Damn frown.gif I prefer the chat on WLM it seems easier to use, you just click on someone and type the message and hit enter - also seemless integration with facebook chat instead of using that rubbish web messenger, with skype the text chat seems awkward mad.gif But on the other hand I prefer the video chat on Skype, So i hope they use the WLM messaging and the Skype video chat - that would be great

And I, for one, am glad everyone is not you. What Facebook does, it does very well:
  • Event organizing
  • Finding people (I won't dispute the pros/cons of "finding people," but it's indisputable that Facebook is very good at doing this)
  • Getting back in touch with people from your past
  • Group collaboration (i.e. Facebook groups where you can post thoughts/ideas/songs/art/code/etc. with a specific subset of people, be it a friend circle or a class project group)

The Facebook network makes the level of ease with which you can do these things unparalleled. If you don't have a need for any of the above, that's fine -- but Facebook certainly doesn't fail to provide a very useful and robust system.

I stopped using WLM after MS started bloating the program with games and other weird things.

I remember broadcasting my Winamp music status on MSN, I even had MSN Plus mod that gave you extra functionality, multi-line username and statuses, extra emoticons, haha.. boy I can't believe how many years of my life were wasted chatting online. I don't get to do much of that anymore.

RIP MSN Messenger.

It's already happening frown.gif

Wondering what will happen to my MSN contacts then, as far as the porting/conversion process goes(more of, how many will come to skype once this monkey business is said and done). This also makes me wonder if skype will get a(n arguably well needed) facelift.

I miss MSN already frown.giffrown.gif
