Intel 975xbx + 805 D OC'ing help

Hey guys, I'm new here and need a bit of help with my new motherboard. I got an Intel 975xbx for my bday yesterday and am having trouble overclocking my 805 D chip to acceptable levels again. I had an ASUS mobo before which made everything very easy, as I had the chip running at 3.8 Ghz with room to spare.

Now, I can't get the chip to boot past 3 Ghz (about 15% increase from BIOS settings I believe). I've read of people getting up to 4Ghz with this same combination of gear so I'm really curious as to how they did it. This is my first Intel board so I'm a noob here. The BIOS options are very limited, since they only allow you to change FSB speeds by percentages, and you can't really tweak the core voltage which I had to do previously.

I'd like to squeeze the the most life I can out of this beautiful chip before I upgrade to a Core 2 duo on xmas, so can anyone help me out with some tips on how to get back to those high ranges? Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you need to up the voltage but you can't do that.

I think you should go back to you old mobo.

Is that 975XBX a rev 304? If not then you may have a limitation. IMO, I think you should sell that MoBo and get a P5B Deluxe, then you'll see that 805 close to or 4.0ghz.

Thanks for the replies... my 975xbx is definitely a 304 rev. I believe that's why it'll be compatible with the Core 2 duo. Sounds like there's not much hope for overclocking though, kinda sucks. It's such a good motherboard that it'd be a shame to sell it and get a different one. I guess I'll have to wait for the Core 2 upgrade for higher speeds.

You have to unlock the bios to overclock. you will find three little solder dots right next to the bios jumper. This is the master bios, they only installed the the pins on the reasearch prototypes. You have to solder the first two dots together. So the jumper on the factory bios header will be in the same postion as the two solder dots that have to be connected. Just be careful and dont make it too hot or use too much solder. Happy clocking!
