[CPUWorld] AMD drops prices of Athlon II and A-Series processors

My gosh, look at how cheap they are! blinksmiley.gif

I mean, looking at the price of the first-gen A4 vs even the Athlon II x2, wow.... that plus $50 ish mobo will make for some interesting sub-$200 budget family PCs

Last month DigiTimes reported on upcoming price reductions of older generation of AMD APUs.

According to their sources, AMD was going to reduce prices of socket FM1 processors by as much as 35%. Yesterday AMD updated their official price list, and posted new prices of A-Series microprocessors, however the cuts were not as big as expected. On the other side, AMD also slashed prices of all Athlon II dual-, triple- and quad-core parts by at least 14%.

Yesterday's price cuts also included one "Piledriver" APU, A4-5300, which is now 11% cheaper. In addition to A4-Series products, AMD shaved a few dollars off the prices of A6-3670K, A8-3850 and A8-3870K first-generation APUs.

Any idea when the retailers will be reflecting this price drop? So far NCIX.ca still has their A8-5500 as $112

And are the FM1 CPUs still viable for HTPCs with the upcoming 4K HDTVs?

I'm itching to replace my Patriot PBO Alpine with a decent HTPC with XBMC as the OS.

The A8-5500 is not part of this price drop. But at $112 the price is not bad. Why don't you price match it to DC?

$67 for a 3Ghz Quad, not bad, not bad at all...

Always nice to see price drops. Kind of surprised the 3870K went down ~9% while the 3670K is only down a bit over 3%. Though, the 3670K is quite good value for an unlocked APU.

Argh! Oh well...will take a look into pricematching with DC but all of these CPUs are FM1 sockets...hmm...oh well...I guess I'll just make an FM1 build then.

Thanks for the link to DC.
