Because Ivy Bridge has such a low TDP that these mosfets don't become a big problem until a certain point (ie very hot, or very high overclocks). Still, I don't recommend it given so many alternatives.

Also people believe in a myth that ASRock boards are cheaper and better than alternatives... well not true with Z77 boards.

Not from my experience of owning a board with that kind of mosfets back in the day. Of course TDP of those CPUs was higher, but that's exactly my point.

Exactly...back in the day wink.gif but ASRock's mosfets are better these days. However, I'll still pick Gigabyte D3H over it thumb.gif

Dude, D-PAK is D-PAK, how could they become better? wth.gif ASRock uses better mosfets on higher end boards, but not Extreme4.

My buddy is using the Z77 Extreme4 for his gaming rig & Gigabyte Z68X-UD5 for his workstation. Using 2500K's for both & both are OCed to 4.5GHz. His mosfets are not hot. I was entertaining the thought of buying an Exteme4 but had decided to keep using my current mobo (see sig) for both work and gaming. And you're right, ASRock use better mosfets on their higher end mobos at least regarding to aesthetics.

Wait, what? How can a microchip look better. I wonder if you know what mosfet is.

That's D-PAK

The new ones generally named PowerPAK, and PowelRstage.

In this case, a mosfet = a mosfet, or a heatsink? biggrin.gif

4.5 Ghz is a relatively small OC. Also if he is not using LLC, the load on VRM is lower, so it is cooler. The only time I managed to get heatsink on UD5H get slightly warm is when I used LLC on Extreme for 4.5 GHz OC (my chip is terrible), otherwise it stays completely cool (given a good ventilation).
