[TH] Samsung Preparing to Reveal 'Radical Brand Makeover'

Samsung is said to be preparing a reveal for a new brand image at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, so says a a report from Australia's Channel News.

The South Korean conglomerate is apparently planning to unveil a "complete new look" that will compete with Apple's "vibrant" international brand image. The report suggests that Samsung has obtained the help of a design team that has previously worked with Nike on branding.

Scott Bedbury, a freelance brand consultant who has worked with Starbucks, is said to be overseeing the project. He's also a member of the Board of Directors for Jones Soda and the CEO of Brandstream.

"Even the advertising will change with products linked to lifestyle activities similar to what Nike does," said a Channel News source.

I didn't know Samsung was seen as an "Asian brand". It is interesting to see how they reimagine their brand though.

Nike has had some really good rebranding and Jones Soda has just had good branding in general, so it should be interesting. They can't really afford to make huge redesigns in their logo though. They already have a recognizable logo, so changing it radically will lose all the branding they've been working on for years. Any logo changes will have to be incremental. Odds are they'll mainly be working on an image change, rebranding themselves through advertisements, product design, and the demographics they target.

While I know they're Korean, I didn't know people viewed them as an "Asian brand" since it's a multinational company with headquarters around the world. For example, GE began as an American company, but it's such a large multinational company that it's hard to view it as an American company/brand.
