I liked their design. They're the black versus Apple's white. frown.gif

You know what Samsung means in Korean/Chinese? The name itself is Asian.
I wouldn't view Lenovo as a Asian company even though it's Chinese owned. In fact, many companies in the US and the UK are Chinese owned and many people don't even know it.
Ummm, different pronunciation doesn't mean it has a different meaning. 三星 literally translates to 3 Stars in Chinese. Chinese characters are used extensively in Korea and Japan, different sounding but meaning is generally the same.

"Samsung" doesn't mean anything in Chinese. I don't know of anyone that calls Samsung by the Chinese pronunciation either (including people from China). Chinese characters are used much less now in Korea since they changed their writing system.

Different sounding is the key word, not meaning. Know what LG means? Lucky Goldstar. Doesn't mean it's a company from a country that speaks English. Besides, everyone writes "Samsung" in Roman letters, not in Chinese characters.

I can confidently say that I view Kawasaki, Yamaha and Nintendo as Japanese even though they do have international operations.
Samsung is doing what they have to in order to grow in an increasingly global environment filled with Apples.

Don't know what you mean by Samsung doesn't mean anything in Chinese since the Korean meaning are derived from Chinese characters, it's only pronounced differently, like Cantonese and Mandarin. Almost all Korean characters are interchangeable with Chinese characters 삼성 (samseong) <-> 三星 (sanxing) is the same just pronounced differently.

A Korean in Korea will write Samsung as 삼성, so I don't know what you mean by "everyone" writes Samsung in Roman letters. rolleyes.gif

Probably will be "S" everything like how we have "i" everything from Apple... rolleyes.gif

Galaxy s III will be shortened to Samsung G SIII
Galaxy Tab = sTab / sPad
Samsung TV = sTV
Samsung monitor = S already for the slim panels

Then you just need a yin-yang style S with a dot in it.

Or it's just the brand image... you see it happening with the Galaxy S III hitting AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, T-mobile as well as all the ads on TV /print/billboards.

Why do I have a feeling that it's going to be something stupid like this.

I really hope what they mean is syncing up their designs, or something along that line: not a silly name change.

Strange. I like Samsung's brand, and I consider it "vibrant". Hmmm. thinking.gif
