Secure upgrade path? By the time you decide to upgrade, Intel will have better processors on a newer chipset or possibly even a new socket altogether. That's just my opinion, but it happens.

I'd like to have an upgrade with some future-proofing, hence my reservation against FX-based procs. I'm more of a mainstream gamer, if something interesting gets released I ocassionally jump to try it.
The price of the 3570K will not come down in price. If you want it then it's going to cost the same now as it will when Haswell comes out. Intel don't lower their prices for new releases. Also, with the 3570K you won't have any new CPU's coming out that you'll be able to upgrade to. With the FX line you'll be able to upgrade to Steamroller when it launches.

This is true though. It's kind of a push pull situation right now. You can save with AMD and still get pretty nice performance and upgrade later or you can empty your wallet on Intel and hope that your system is fairly future-proof. Personally, I'm a tinkerer so I like switching out parts often, meaning cheap helps. Figure out which of the two are your priority; Work&Games or OC. OC is fun but if you can live with not OCing your CPU, an intel CPU will do much better than you probably think. If you'd like to take my route, Vishera is doing pretty nicely for the small penny that they cost.

reading all the recent posts regarding this push-pull situation got me thinking into staying with my current proc for a little longer. But I still want to upgrade my Mobo to cater USB 3.0 and DDR3 memory.

Is it wise, if I just take a good am3+ board for now? Probably upgrade to an fx-8350, or wait for steamroller after. (But is steamroller going to be compatible with am3+ boards?)
