Yeah, it will be VERY tight. That is another reason why the tray may not work for this case. The board is too wide for the case and may not be able to slide it in and out. Once I get the board in hand then I'll make final call but it doesn't seem promising unless I figure something else out. We shall see once the gear is in hand.

So I took a few snapshots and this is what you will be dealing with (pics are a little low quality the lighting is very bad right now)

This is my Asus Gene IV resting on my AX850 as you can see at the sides the mobo doesn't stick out

But it is very very close, it is actually maybe a millimetre on each side

If you have any questions right now feel free to ask and I will see what I can do for you thumb.gif and if you want these taken down I can do that too smile.gif

This is the spot which may make the tray design impossible outside of the weight concerns. From the measurements which I took of a spare mATX board I have, it is possible but oh so tight.

You see that the frame is 1.84mm (including the fold or rolled edge) and the remaining space is .84mm. So this means the motherboard is taking up 1mm. I was hoping for less than 1mm to be used so it would easily slide by once the rolled edge is removed. I wont know until I get the Asus board in my hand for exact measurements but it doesn't quite bode well for a removeable tray design.

If the tray is cut from the equation, that simply means it wont be a pull out. My basic design will still work but the backdate and tray will be separate components. The backplate will still be removable.

I predict a nice project! I'm also working on a prodigy who will receive a gene x79 + sli!

+1 for the horizontal mATX. I really think Betfinix can come up with a good mITX/mATX range by incorporating all these mod ideas. It would take stuff all to press out new rear panels and psu cages for them.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to dedicate some time to the project lately as family has been sick. Darn family getting in the way again. biggrin.gif

I will complete my mockup back panel this week and re-evaluate any designs as needed. Several parts are on order as well for some copper bending practice.

This can be easily be done with minimal increase to the case. I would suspect that 3mm on each side would provide the ample room to have a fixed mATX prodigy case. They may need a little more for a removable tray on mass produced case. I was playing with the idea of expanding the case width but that would require a bit more modding than I may want to take on at this time. Maybe for a v2 build wink.gif
