Gigabyte z77x UD3H vs D3H and other z77 motherboards

It's nearing the end of the year and I'm replacing the 955 in my current sig rig with a 3570k clocked up to 4.4+

I'm wondering what the differences are between the UD3H and D3H and whether it warrants me dropping an extra $40 NZD on it. I'm already stretching the budget of $500 NZD for both mobo and CPU especially when the Extreme 4 is $60 NZD cheaper than the UD3H

Here's a price listing of all z77 boards in NZ over at Pricespy The CPU alone takes $300
The budget is not definite especially if the differences between the boards are worth it, in which case I will gladly bump the limit an extra $60 or so

I've been wandering around forums and the main points come out as the Gigabyte boards having better VRM, phases and mosfets compared to comparable z77 boards in the price range eg. asrock Ext 4. as well as being able to OC better with lower voltages

There are also a few things I need of the board for the rest of my rig specifically pci-e lanes for SLI and at least 5 SATA ports for all my data HDD's and boot SSD + maybe a few extra for eSATA.

Thanks, that'd be much appreciated

UD3H has perks like onboard buttons, debug LED. It also uses Ultra Durable 4 whereas D3H uses UD4 Classic. The main difference between classic and usual is 2x copper IIRC.

Given the prices, I don't think you should pay that much extra for UD3H. Also Extreme4 isn't bad choice either, especially since it's $20 cheaper than D3H. The problem with Extreme4 is only the fact that it uses inefficient mosfets that going to get hot, but it also has that giant heatsink.

Both the UD3H and extreme 4 are solid baords. I have the UD5H, which is basically a slightly upgraded UD3H, and its been great, I would go with the UD3H. but if your looking to save some money, the Extreme 4 will do fine as well.

I just setup my new UD3H and 3570K combo. Its working like a dream so far and overclocked to 4.2ghz. Just remember this board does not have any usb 2.0 ports so unless you have one on your case you will have to use a PS2 adapter to use your keyboard or mouse while installing windows then you can install the 3.0 drivers and your all good to go. I was lucky enough to have some on the front on my case(HAF 912).

USB 3.0 ports should switch to USB 2.0 legacy mode while installing Windows and etc. Of course it depends on the motherboard, but It works that way on UD5H. I expect the same from UD3H at least from Intel USB 3.0.

Moreover, even if it doesn't switch that's not a problem with Windows 8 since it already includes USB 3.0 drivers.

The UD3H has 2 Intel ports which will work in legacy, and 4 Via ports which do not. There is even a sticker telling you that you can only plug a KB and mouse into the Intel ports, meaning you are wasting 2 USB 3.0 ports on a keyboard and mouse

Lol i'll keep that in mind

The D3H seems to have less power phases that the UD3H although rev 1.1 has an 8pin cpu socket compared to rev 1.0 D3H
It seem i'm set on the D3H although its annoying how far apart the PCI-E lanes are spaced and also how the 2nd slot is right next to the PCI lane which stops me from using the spare sound card i have lying around

Does the motherboard come with an extra long SLI cable? I hope so...

hello, does anyone actually own the z77x UD3H Rev 1.1 not 1.0 ? because i have some questions.

This is someone's picture of UD3H Rev1.1 motherboard.

When you first opened the box, did your motherboard have 2 red stickers? I see one in the picture but is there another red sticker on the diognal opposite corner where the USB, VGA are? And also, did you have 2 bags of black SATA cables? or 1 black and 1 blue?
Thank you so much.

Lol i did the same thing i upgraded my 955 to a 3570k and its worth it in my opinion but on to business have you tried looking into the asus z77 boards? I would look into the P8Z77-V or the P8Z77-V LK i had both of them and i liked them both but i upped the board for the more sata ports. And ive also had the UD3H and it was a fine board. Or you can always wait till Haswell since 1155 is a dead socket now

But its your rig do what makes you happy and good luck!

You are comparing the wrong motherboards then because both have the ultra durable design. You are thinking of the z77 d3h and not the z77x d3h. Too many people mix these boards up when comparing. If you plan to add a second graphics card, the d3h only has 1 3.0 x16 slot and then 2 2.0 x16 slot at x8 and x4 where the ud3h has 2 3.0 x16 slots running at x16 and x8 and then 1 2.0 x16 running at x4.

you also gain these connectors and features over it

1 x power button
1 x reset button
1 x Clear CMOS button
1 x Voltage Measurement Points
1 x BIOS Switch

Onboard OC Features
Lucid Universal MVP Support
Switchable Graphics
GIGABYTE EZ Smart Response
1 x DisplayPort
2 x eSATA 6Gb/s
