Max RAM on GA-880G-UD3H

Thread Starter
Hi,

The specification for the GA-880GA-UD3H says it support a max of 16Gb RAM but the 880G chipset is supposed to support 32Gb of RAM.

At the time 8Gb Stick were not available so is it possible that in fact the board support 32Gb of RAM? Thanks !

Motherboard manufacturers don't always enable or support everything that the chipset is capable of, this is especially true in laptops and cheap desktops.

Gigabyte spells out pretty clearly that motherboard only supports 16Gb. So, it supports 16Gb.

I seriously doubt gigabyte would not make such a claim because 8Gb sticks were not invented. It is more likely that something silly like disabling some of the bits on the address buss is bottle necking what the chipset can support.

I am a electronic engineer, and yes....I have worked with products were some of the bits on the address buss were disconnected, limiting the amount of memory that could be supported (even though in my situation the chipset could of supported more). This was done in my particular situation for cost cutting reasons, and it caused me a lot of headaches.

Someone had this question with a GA-MA790XT-UD4P

And tried it out... the 8GB sticks worked.

Just a pointer.

I just wanted to make the comment that I have a 880G-UD3H and am now running this kit:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=20-231-560&nm_mc=EMCPB-112012&cm_mmc=EMCPB-112012-_-PB-_-Item-_-20-231-560
and it is running fine.

I have not tried running the old ram sticks yet to see if the motherboard will support more than 16GB but I can if someone wants me to try it.

1) Hi, I also have 880GA UD3H motherboard. I recently upgrade to 8GB ram DDR3 @ 1600 (F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL) ... However I don't know if I'm overclocking the CPU correctly to get the 1600 out of the ram... I only set the FSB to 240... is this correct or should I also adjust other setting also in the bios?

2) What is the best way to get 1600 out of the DDR3... If i change memory multiplier from 6.66 to 8 I get 1600 but with wrong timings not 9-9-9-24..Should I just set timing manually?

So... In the end did the explosion kill you?
