If that is the case, I'll just wait for the GOTY edition on Steam sale. I still need to give Revelations a go anyhow.

Does the 840 have noticeable gains over the 830?

In benchmarks, yes. In actual usage, I doubt anyone would notice.

The pro does yes, by quite a bit, benchmark wise. Will you feel it? Probably not, unless you are doing really intensive stuff, with a workstation level rig.

The 840 pro is a lot more expensive than the 830, like serious a lot for not a real noticable performance gain.

I haven't been keeping up with the controllers and different SSD models since I got my Intel a year and a half ago.

Does anyone that has mind chiming in on Samsung SSDs and this one specifically? I already looked at the sequential read/write and 4k IOPS, and it completely blows my current one out of the water. Is their firmware typically not buggy?

Thanks.

The 4k write IOPS is almost 3 times faster, and the sequential write is around 25% faster. Many probably won't see a huge difference, but that's still pretty substantial. The difference is definitely most noticeable on the writing side of things.

How many people actually write a lot to these. I have a 128gb just for the os and small apps but I would never put a couple games or everything on there.

I have a 512GB SSD. I install everything, including games, to it.

I still have HDDs for storage and regular system backups, but I have plenty of space on my SSD for lots of games.

The 830 is regarded as one of the most stable drives on the market. While the 840 and 840 Pro haven't been out long enough to be certain, most are presuming they will be of the same high caliber.

Even on a 128GB there is room for a handful of games, especially console ports that are 5GB or less. I only keep the games I'm currently playing installed and I've never had an issue with space. And before anyone gets on me about "needing" to have all their games installed at all times, yes I realize I am an oddball to these sorts. rolleyes.gif
