[Engadget] Samsung bundles Assassin's Creed III with SSD 840 Pro to spark a sales revolution, ships the 840 line - Page 4

Apparently this game has way too many glitches on the Console....So I wonder how bad it will look on the PC due to Ubisoft bad PC ports. I remember AC:R was such a bad port that I was getting 180 fps on a 6970 card....Ended up buying the PS3 version which looked a lot better even in 720p 30 fps....

Does anyone that has mind chiming in on Samsung SSDs and this one specifically? I already looked at the sequential read/write and 4k IOPS, and it completely blows my current one out of the water. Is their firmware typically not buggy?
Thanks.
edit
The 4k write IOPS is almost 3 times faster, and the sequential write is around 25% faster. Many probably won't see a huge difference, but that's still pretty substantial. The difference is definitely most noticeable on the writing side of things.

Samsung make's their own controller smile.gif, for the 470 and 830, and I'd imagine it would be the same for the 840.

180 FPS is bad? I didn't have any problems with AC:R on the PC, played smooth and stable since day 1.

I just leave vsync on for framerates though.

You can get a 256GB Vertex 4 for $200 right now. I read in some places about its failure rate, but did the 1.5 firmware update resolve most of that?

It's obviously far faster than anything Samsung has out right now, and it's cheaper too. Anyone have an opinion on it or the firmware specifically? I read what it updated, but I didn't find much as to the failure rates post-update since it has only been 2-3 months.

I definitely don't want to have the deal with OCZ's RMA Department after reading about it. cigar.gif

I would not go with ocz I heard too many issues with them. Wish I could afford a 512gb SSD to store everything there. I would still use the 1tb hard drive as storage for games and downloads but my 128gb has 104 gb free after windows 8 updates and no games. The boot time is what I like the best I don't really use the drive for anything else. It's deff better having the os running off one drive though.

I'm not sure what you mean by obviously far faster, the 840 Pro beats it in the majority...

Ah yeah, I misread a review. This review shows it trading blow with the Vertex 4 though, pretty much staying neck-and-neck. That was with the 1.4 firmware, so odds are it would fair slightly better with 1.5.

I guess the question is whether or not the very small IOPS bump is worth another $60. If you plan on getting AC3 anyway, then Samsung is a no-brainer. If not.. not so much. The only main consideration would be whether or not 1.5 fixed the reliability issues of the V4.

The Pro series are absolutely nowhere to be found here in Norway or in Europe. Regular 840 is, but I rather buy bigger 830 for the same price instead.
But I NEED Pro, but neither Amazon or Newegg ship them internationally. That sucks bigtime. Shame on you Samsung for being so late with the shipments.

Anyone who knows any US shops that have them in stock that ship international? I`m well aware of shipto etc that gives you an us adress so that you can order from newegg etc but too much hassle imo
