Appraisal: i7 950/Asus Sabertooth x58/Mushkin Ram

Thread Starter
Not quite sure what to sell this stuff at since most of it is discontinued.

The i7 950 has been left stock in my wife's computer the whole time. One year of warranty is left on it.

The Sabertooth x58 has 3 years of warranty left and has no issues.

The Mushkin ram clocks at 7-7-7-20 1600mhz, haven't tried for anything more. It's this model http://www.mushkin.com/Memory/Blackline/998679.aspx

Thanks.

Edit: The ram has a lifetime warranty apparently.

I7-950 somewhere in the $135-155 range, the fact it has not been overclocked is a plus, as well as a minus, since that makes it an unknown, but also has not been abused. The remaining 1 year warranty is a plus.

Sabertooth mobo is tough for me to price, as I haven't seen any sell in recent times. I"m going to say $90-$120 with the high side, again, being because of the available warranty.

The Mushin ram is basic Elpida based (non-hyper and probably non-BBSE), so I'd say $30-$35. A 2x4GB kit can be found on sale these days for $30 or so just about every day and the Samsung 4GB sticks for under $17-$20 (recently even less) each so a person could get 12GB for $45-$60. That puts a lot of downward pressure on your 3x2GB modules. Also, please note that while Mushkin has a lifetime warranty, it only applies to the original owner. It is possible that Mushkin will still warrant it for someone else, but no one should expect that to be the case.

Geeks.com recently had some Asus Sabertooth X58 for $63-$69, and I bought two of them. I checked serial number with Asus, and they still have around 2-3 years left on warranty, so I'd say your board is around $70-$80 if you have all retail package.
i7 950 is around $110-$125

Nice grab on those X58 boards. I would have to say that based on that info my estimate needs to be lowered.

I do however, still believe that the 950 will bring a little more than $125.

Ah.

Anyways, it's a shame it resells for so cheap. I've seen i5 2500K's resell for $120 and some good Z68 boards resell for $70 - $100, making it a tough decision to buy an i7 950 and a good X58 motherboard over that (had two i7 950's and an ASUS X58 Sabertooth, very good setup). I would start at what you think it's worth, and just lower it by $10 every week or two. Eventually someone will buy it, or miss out on a super deal. DDR3 memory is so cheap, I would just throw the memory in for free in a combo deal.

Since there's no i5 2500K's for $120 on the market, I'd start the i7 950 at $140 and the motherboard at $100 and memory at $30 and see where that gets you. Good X58 motherboards are hard to find on OCN (EVGA X58 boards just die too frequently).

If you sell it soon, the better though, since Black Friday is coming. Most people apt to wait for a good deal then.
