Yes and no. If the game is cpu sensitive then it won't help. If the game is graphic card sensitive then yes it will help. I had a Phenom II 555 clock @ 4.0ghz paired up with a HD5970 2gb and I had no bottleneck on the games I played.

I'd say don't buy a 6870. 2013 = 8xxx series...

And your CPU needs to be upgraded... :\

Unfortunately you have a super high end motherboard but it's AM2+ frown.gif I don't know what I'd suggest.

I know in the US 7970's and 7950's are becoming insanely cheap.
7850's would be more in your budget.

$150~ if you wait

For the cpu upgrade. I would be best to try to get a Phenom II 960T or any of the Phenom II x6.

yeah the crosshair 2 was decent when i bought it but i can say for sure i will be getting a 990fx board this xmas. ive since decided that i will also get the 8350 or one of the new amd cpus when they come out.i play at 1920 x 1080 and it seems at that res cpu does count for something and in crossfire id be better going for a better cpu. so i will be getting the asus crosshair 5 board or something similar that will suypport fx cpus. also some ddr3 ram. i only just got the card in june and id feel too guilty to replace it with another single 7 series. (am only interested in sticking with amd). so i kinda thought 2 6870s supported by the new piledriver cpus should be a solid gaming rig. my current rig with 550 and one 6870 is quite good not amazing but it can still handle most new games.

my concern though since playing at 1920 and the amds not being as good on single thread as the intel are pc game devolopers making games now to support 2 or 4 or morecores/threads? do amd plan or releasing a 2 core piledriver cpu?

is the 5970 equiv to 2 6870s. so more or less you had a 555 with 2 5870s. im just wondering do you think there would be any difference in benchmarks on games with a 555 + 5970 vs a 555 + 2 5870s. thats what imn lookn for. cause if there is, and i dont upgrade cpu soon, i guess im better just sticking with one card.

5870 CF VS. 6870 CF. This is basically 5970 oc to 850/1200 or 5870 stock speed.
5970 VS. 6870 CF. This is at stock speeds.
So 6870 cf is a little better than a 5970 oc at 850/1200.
