Also, extreme overclocking usually means watercooling, which means taking of the pretty lights. While this is an awesome card, Asus really needed to think the cooler through.
I am an enthusiast and Im not even thinking about even crossfire. Reason being that most games dont even support dual GPU's, never mind more then that, so a Triple slot cooler is not really a big deal in any way whatsoever.
And high clocks dont need watercooling, people get this beast up to 1300+ MHz all the time.
I will be getting this card, even if it costs $550 (after tax, which right now, it does)

Still, these cards are awesome. I really want to switch to AMD since Nvidia's voltage lockdown...

Doable. Wait for release of water block. People who want insane 3DMark scores and/or ridiculous overclocks will not be on air.

Don't know how much more enthusiastic a card can get? http://news.softpedia.com/news/ASUS-Radeon-HD-7970-Matrix-Sets-World-Record-in-3D-Mark-2003-281204.shtml

Most reviews and users (Myself included) have had success overclocking this card to 1300MHz and beyond...

Card is an absolute monster and will destroy the vast majority of 670s and 680s with the exception being a highly overclocked 680 Lightning (1450+/1800+) with Afterburner hack.

I voted for the Matrix HD7970, once overclocked it will be significantly faster than a GTX 670 due to the unlocked voltage and higher bandwidth.
The 4 GB GTX 670 doesn't worth it at this point. Unless you really care about Nvidia's features which I still think doesn't justify the cost.

While the success rate to get the Matrix to 1300 MHz is higher it is still not guaranteed. If you search well in ATI's forums you will see a lot of people are disappointed from their cards only hitting low 1200s which is attainable on most non-reference 7970s.

I can't really wait that long, I am currently borrowing my friend's GTX 260 so I cant wait for 6 months for the new series to come out. Plus I dont want a reference cooler so I would have to wait even longer...

Not to mention stock shortages :/
Go with the matrix and if it doesn't clock as well as you want, trade it wink.gif

Asus 7970 platnium is a monster card, monster performance and monster power consumption.
670 is more efficient and you dnt really need 4 GB for 1920x 1080 so go 2GB which is about $100 cheaper.
+ your only running 19" CRT.... even your iGPU HD4000 would be alright for that. smile.gif

I would go for the 670 2GB reference model under your circumstances thumb.gif

I am planning on going with a Triple 23" monitor setup by the end of christmas
*EDIT* Also the CRT can go up to 1792x1344 and at my current res (1280x1024) i can get 75Hz. Also power consumption is not a worry of mine, I have an 850w power supply!
