Can the Matrilx-M Stage AMP work with a Mic Extension

Does anyone use an Asus Xonar Phoebus with Windows 8? Ive read that most high end sound cards arnt very compatible with windows 8. From what i've found the Asus Xonar Phoebus SHOULD be compatible with windows 8 however im reading alot of problems on various forums.

To give a bit more info. I plan on getting the AKG Q701 headphone..the Astro mixamp Pro and an Antlion modmic. In order to get the full audio quality of my AKG i want a great sound card. I know I can probably get just as good quality with a lower end soundcard however I plan in the future to spend upwards of 500+ on a great headphone and want the soundcard to support it. That is why I have looked at cards like the Asus Xonar Phoebus.

So if anyone has any personal experience with the Phoebus and would like to comment would be much appreciated. Or if anyone knows a different soundcard that supports 7.1 and has a headphone amplifier I am willing for other opinions. Please and Thank you smile.gif

Your not going to get away with a single sound card like that with a pair of Q701s and really get what they can offer. The K/Q/701/702 headphones really need current, regardless of what their impedance says..

Better off spending the money on a decent internal/external source and spending the majority of the money on an amp that pairs well with those headphones I would think.

So I did some research and am looking to get the Matrix M-Stage amp...

What i dont understand is if a mic extension like the antlion modmic would work with this amp.

I plan on using the AKG Q701 for gaming as well as enjoyment. So i need a Mic Extensino like the Antlion in order to talk to people in games. From what I understand Mixamp from astro was specifically made to be used with a headphone that has a mic extension.

My question is: Can the Matrix M-Stage amp use an extension of a Mic onto a headphone as well? if not are there any Amps that someone can suggest that bring out the full potential of the AKG Q701..while also being able to use a mike extension?

IM simply unsure if the computer will be able to read the input of the MIC if the headphone is connected through an AMP. Probably a stupid question but wanna make sure before I make a purchase

I'm not really following, but your mic input and your audio out are totally different jacks. The mic will need to get to a mic-in or a port assigned to that on the sound card.

The amp just runs inline, there is no processing of any data. Your mic never touches it.

Also, the AMP you mentioned is RCA Stereo input only - so if you set on using that sound card, you will need one of these for your primary output to go to the amp. The headphones obviously will just plug into the amp directly.

If you plan on using that volume knob, I mean you can do it, but you'll have to play around. The easiest thing would just configure a line-out to the amp and use that for your headphone volume control.
