Wanted: Best Task Killer - Root Access Based

Hi there,

Simply put, I'm asking here because I want everyone who uses android to give their input, as literal droid forums don't always have most positive answers i've learned...

Have the Galaxy Nexus, with Paranoid Rom 4.1.2 on it. (JB variant). Enjoying it.

Rooted, Oc'd to 1.8gigglehertz. (Can't do 2.0, crashes, not stable oddly).

Every now and then randomly my free ram goes down to under 100mb's. But at stock stock (4.0.1/2) I had free ram of 350+.

Current main apps is primarily the OS, 3-4 widgets, Go Launcher Ex, batery booster (for the icon at top task for life/temp), and 3g watchdog pro (I went over once, never again). Rarely Skype, and fb/twitter (I go to settings/apps/running/close them / clear their cache when done).

And i'm still getting a memory leak.

I've pressed the equivilant alt tab button, closed them there.

I've tried a few random memory boosters, sdcard speed enhancers (128kb - 2048, etc). Example "Sd speed increase" or similar.

I'm looking for ways to improve free memory overall... Perhaps 300-400mb free constant... (if even possible) before I toss in a heavy app..

Taking suggestions, willing to pay 4-5$ for x app if provable that it works.

ROOT ACCESS is a must, I want to potentially setup a memory profile, see all running processes (nuke ones I know), etc...

Just need to make the phone more responsive and stable.

- Le_Loup

Ty in advance

Might be a problem with your OS, maybe the OS is auto-running to many applications at once for this phone to handle, or it might just be that you/ve installed services along with your applications that are always on... Who really knows :'(

Lets say this is the case, separate from uninstalling apps, one at a time... etc.. and potentially reinstalling... is there a way to correctively nuke auto apps? And not have them resurrect themselves?

task killers are not needed with android 4.0+

go into settings, advanced (i think, i haven't run PA in a while, but it's either that or performance) and you can limit the amount of apps to keep in ram there. i can't remember exactly what setting it is, but it's there, and it allows you to adjust the ram useage by apps.

or just flash a different kernel.

first suggestion: get rid of the facebook app. Use another one, or use the browser based one. That will free you up some memory. (also, the facebook app is know for bad battery life, running a lot of apps in background, and using up too much memory).

Also, what happens when you phone goes to <100MB free? why are you caring so much about wasted "free" ram?

I've tried loading the cwm version and flashing that, but there's no tab for it, or app, I can't seem to locate it to improve it... Suggestions? (Have cwm, and windows, but i'm unsure the best process other then flashing the one they have for cwm).

Good questions, here's my attempt at answering.

The fb/twit widgets are from "APW". Not a literal widget for facebook, a general widget concept with multiple sizes for bookmarks, calender, tweets, fb, contacts, sms, etc.

When it goes under 100mb, everything gets sluggish, I've been down to 80mb free approx... (USing "Memory booster" to identify this). And even system settings, apps, memory is equal to free in memory booster.

I've "swiped" all the alt tab button apps away, even manually closed fb, twitter, etc. (even google maps... a few times), and nuked most cache as well except for primary apps that run the phone....

I care about free/wasted/ram so that I can open a game, or any app of choice on the fly, with smooth flexibility. I like the idea it works when I click it, it loads near instant, etc. Basically I want near raid 0 ssd performance on my phone if even close to possible... Like oc.net, I'm a performance tweaker. I want the most out of my device, period. smile.gif

so how many of these free your ram, monitor your system and other helper apps are you using? first thing, uninstall those. second, minimize the amount of widgets you are using. even if it's apw widgets, it's still polling facebook's service for the updates and what not.

another thing, what launcher are you using? i've found that some of the launchers actually slow things down a lot as well. nova launcher and the stock launcher i have had best results with.

also, when you swipe cards away, you're not stopping the app or freeing them from ram, you're just removing them from the fast app switcher.
