PSU Advice

Thread Starter
I'm building an HTPC/Gaming machine that will be running the following:

I5-3570k (overclocked slightly)
Asus Maximus V Gene
Hyper 212 Evo
HD7870 or HD7950 (not sure yet - but may overclock)
1 SSD
1 7200 RPM HDD
3-4 case fans

I'm looking for a cheapish, efficient and reliable PSU to power all of this. I don't think my power needs are too high and I'm looking at the following two units:

RoseWill Capstone 450w - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182066

or

RoseWill HIVE 550w - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182131

The Capstone seems like the better unit, but I'm nervous about 450w being enough (I think it's probably more than adequate, but still nervous)

Can someone reinforce my thought that 450w will be fine for my needs? Or do I need to jump up to the 550w?

According to PSUCalc it'll use about 375W and that's with a 7950 so I'd say you'd be ok to use the Capstone 450W PSU.

That 450 should be fine. If you can wait, I'm positive they'll go on sale again soon here. The 550-modular was like 65 bucks a couple of weeks ago and it sold out.

Just watch the new egg Shell Shockers and whatnot... The Capstones are good units though.

the capstone is a very high end unit which will be more then enough for what you want to use

anyone who knows that unit would comfortably put 2 7870's on a capstone 450 and it will run without a problem that is how much confidence me or any of the other knowledgeable advisors have in the capstone
