Mums iPad sucks up internet bandwidth while charging

Is there any way to stop this?? Were stuck with hughesnet and have a horrendously low daily cap. Every time she plugs it into the wall to charge, it sits there and sucks down our cap at quite a fast pace.

Edit: Well a temporary fix is to disable the wifi while its plugged in and charging, but Im curious as to why the device sucks up bandwidth while charging and not using it.

Do you have iCloud back-up enabled? If so, it backs up automatically when the iPad is charging and has wi-fi access. I don't think there's a workaround aside from disabling wi-fi or iCloud backup altogether.

Will have to check that, is it enabled as default?? Would that be sucking up my download bandwidth though?? Id assume the backup would just require upload?

It would be just upload... but maybe it's slowing the network down somehow?

Still doing it, unless we disable the wifi, it sucks up about 1MN every 30 secs or so when plugged in and charging, truly weird.

Is it possible it's trying to download the latest version of the OS but is unable to because of slow download speed, and thus fails and then retries again later?

Im not sure how to check that, and would it only try to do that while charging? Our speeds arnt terrible, 1.5 down, which equates to 180-190Kbps.

iOS updates are usually pretty beefy. Took me a good 30 mins to an hour on my 6~7mbps net.

The update could be as large as 500MB. That's 3/4 of an hour assuming it's going at full speed. Though, that doesn't seem like it would be it, as it should be able to finish.

You can check if it's updating in Settings > General > Software Update. If it isn't updating, check and see if an update is available. If it is, download and install it and then see if the issue goes away.

Pretty sure it's backing up. I believe there's an option for it to do SOMETHING everytime it's charging.
