Please help noob OC e6600!!

Thread Starter
Hello, currently i seem to be running around 50'c stock cooling without OC'ing that seems WAY too high, I think the thermal paste must have not been applied correctly, I was using artctic silver 7, but maybe during HEATsync installation (worst design ever) something went wrong.

I would like to get a better fan, any suggestions?? Zalman? something else maybe.

Also how do I go about OC'ing this baby? Thanks!

My ram is running 1.9v 5/5/5/15 @ 6667 right now, I think on OCZ's website it says to run at @ 2V?

Ya you will need aftermarket cooling if you want to oc any farther.

For $43 look at this.

A better option but for $54, look at this.

Is that 50C load or idle? if it's idle it's way too high indeed, if it's under load it would be normal for the stock cooler.

For an aftermarket cooler, the Zalman 9500 is a quite good one, but I've heard many times the Big Typhoon is better if you put a better fan on it. Also the Scythe Ninja and the Noctua something.. I don't remember those names quite well anymore, but I'm sure somebody else can name them for you.

To overclock your processor you have to go in the BIOS. You know what that is, right?
well, if not, during the boot of your pc you'll see a screen, mostly telling your motherboard type, and below you'll see something like 'press del to enter SETUP'. When you're in BIOS look for performance options/tuning/something similar than that, and up the FSB to the speed you want. Stock is 266Mhz (x9=2400) so you have to change that to a number higher, for example 296 to get E6700 speeds.
It's also smart to put your ram on a 1:1 divider, for best performance.
I don't know the BIOS of the 975 series so I don't know where to find it exactly.

Succes!

Arctic Silver 7? You mean 5 right

I agree that the standard 775 mounting system is almost certainly the worst design ever, and it's possible the thermal paste you used got screwed up in installation. You can always pull it off and look, if you were using Arctic Silver 5, be sure to follow the instructions on their website exactly.

As for a aftermarket cooler, it is highly recommended if you plan to overclock, since the Tuniq Tower is out of stock again I would recomend this;

Scythe SCINF-1000 120mm CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink - Retail - $57.99

Please, stay away from the Zalman........ I have a link in my sig that will show you why.

Thanks guys... , yeah I know where the BIOS is, but im used to ASUS bios so its taking some time getting used to lol, Ram on a 1:1 eh, i'll try that.

I used a rice kernal size amount of compound in the middle of the cpu, and didn't spread it.

These are my options
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index...d=pl&id=FN.349

And it seems the TT one is sold out

I'm reading arctict silver instructions and it says for DUAL-core's apply a THIN LINE, I was doing the droplet in the center ie) single core, but the CORE2 DUO heat spreader looks more like a single-core, not inverted... any ideas?

Maybe the Cooler Master Hyper 6.

Or the Silverstone NT05 or NT06

Here is a review of the NT06 from CPU Magazine:

10c compared to the stock cooler correct? Because I can not believe a $80 water kit can beat any of the high end aftermarket coolers by 10c.....
