Mount CPU cooler without screws

Thread Starter
Hi guys. I have a shuttle, and it uses non-default mounting-screw-positions for the CPU cooler. Is there any way to attach the CPU without screws (like thermal tape) that would be recommendable? It's the computer in my sig.

Here's a picture, notice how the screw hole is diagonal at 45 degrees to the CPU. Terribly sorry for the dust rolleyes.gif

EDIT:
also isnt that hole for mounting on a standoff?
Pic of entire CPU area please thumb.gif

Currently stand-offs in there because I was attempting to mount it with screws somehow ^^

So are the 4 holes not standard distances apart?
What i mean is could you not simply twist the cooler at 45 degree? as long as the cooler makes enough contact with the CPU it should be ok.

Can i ask what cooler was originally intended/supplied for this motherboard?

Try to make Zip tie screws, it's easy and works real good.

You basically do the following:

-Cut a ziptie to be 2cm long from buckle to tip.
-Grab another ziptie and slide the buckle into it
-You can now regulate the lenght and pressure of the two of them.

That should help mount anything, anywhere basically.

If I did that, it would strike GPU. Anyway, I need a way to keep it in place, instead of screws smile.gif

The stock cooler was a heatpipe and radiator on rear exhaust solution, but I don't have the stock cooler any more, I lost it rolleyes.gif

Thanks for the ziptie thing. Will try it and after that try and find a more elegant solution, but at least I can reassemble my system temporarily ^^

EDIT:
Wait, that won't work, I can't put the ziptie into a stand-off rolleyes.gif

You should be able to remove those and leave the holes exposed...I had a similar oem board and I could do that.rolleyes.gif

I think you should ask about using thermal adhesive on your CPU, it may work but i dont think you could remove the heatsink from CPU after though tongue.gif
I know Arctic cooling do a thermal adhesive compund but dont know if it will work with a CPU.

As ivanlabrie suggested above you can use zipties, this has been used successfully by many people on here for whats now know as "The Mod" which involves fitting a sealed Corsair/Antec WC unit to a GPU core using zipties or similar.
Alright the mounting pressure isnt quite what it could be with correct mounting kit but if your CPU is low TDP then it should be ok i suppose.

So, anyway, is the spacing of the mounting holes actaully standard distances apart? if so then you could get a low profile CPU cooler like the Thermalright AXP-140 and mount it like in my diagram tongue.gif

EDIT:

So your original cooler was like this?

I would measure those holes they almost look like 478 mount spacing at a glance.

Good call, a different cooler might work...Hopefully it won't be needed.
